<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Victoria has gained 35 pounds from the drugs she takes to fight her condition, and has spent 100 nights in the hospital in the last year, along with 40 blood transfusions. She's about the sweetest little girl you'd ever meet. Never complains. Always smiling, but in the end, it's your help that she needs to live. Blazers center Theo Ratliff tried to help, but the NBA got in the way with a ridiculous rule on dress code, prohibited him from sharing her website link printed on his pre-game warm-up. Her parents are regular people, who put their home for sale, turned in their second car, and are trying to raise the $325,000 needed for the procedure. I can totally understand how the NBA is against unauthorized commercial advertising on player uniforms, but come on! Theo isn't promoting some business, he's trying to do something to help save a life.
Ya Stern is a douche, but Theo and the rest of the NBA players are loaded, so why don't they give her some money out of their own pockets?
Can't he ask to wear it? Or did he already? He makes a lot of money anyways, might as well donate it. Andre Miller donated like 500K, if I remember correctly to his alma-mater. And Bogut donated like 200 something thousand and he makes like 10 mil less than Theo.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Best Kept Secret:</div><div class="quote_post">Theo is a pretty rich guy why doesn?t he just give the girls parents the money?</div> I was thinking the same thing.
Like one NBA player said, the only time he gets any peace is when he's on the court. The guys are beseiged with requests for money, some like the heart wrenching one above, others simply selfish family members. This is why they need lawyers, agents to help them navigate the rough waters without being pulled under.
Don't badmouth David Stern. He's been a Godsend for this league and sports in general. He needs to keep the athlete's professional, and he won't let the NBA turn into Nascar where they put banners all over themselves. Good cause or greedy cause (this one obviously being a good cause), you still can't promote campaigns on yourself.
Sorry jaraha but i dont agree with you. those logos are for their sponsors but this is for a dying girl a lot differant.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Best Kept Secret:</div><div class="quote_post">Theo is a pretty rich guy why doesn?t he just give the girls parents the money?</div> Or at least he could just wear the number and pay the fine for it.
Yeah like if theo was wearing a Pepsi shirt, i understand the fine. Beacuse if that were the case he would be promoting Pepsi as a business...but I don't see how a dying girl is a business...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Best Kept Secret:</div><div class="quote_post">Theo is a pretty rich guy why doesn’t he just give the girls parents the money?</div> it is easeir said than done when someone gives charity he wants others to merit by contributing so if they need a million he will say i will give a $100,000 go out and collect $900,000 [red]edited out spam - 44[/red]
If you guys clicked on "Full Story" first before posting, you would have known that he did make a contribution. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Then, Theo pulled out a check book and wrote a $30,000 check to help defray the cost of Victoria's $350,000 procedure. "It wasn't scripted, it wasn't orchestrated, he just did it because he cared," Chuck said. "I know these guys get a lot of grief for some of the things that happened... but... Theo... man... " And Chuck didn't finish the sentence. He didn't have to...</div> No fanfare whatsoever, just pulled out his checkbook.
theo is such a nice guy. david stern on the other hand, wtf is he doing? i say fire his ***. the guy has just abused his power with the dress code and such, and also with the banning of tights. wth is wrong with tights? and now he comes and basically says, no. i dont want to help this woman. i want him fired
