It was probably Rod Thorn as a thanks to Babcock for giving away Carter for nothing.

Babcocks's accomplishments for this year: A=great B=good C=average D=bad

Traded Alston for Mike James (A+)
Got the better defender, better offensive player and better attitude while also getting an expiring contract for Alstons very long contract

Drafted CV31 with 7th pick (A+)
2nd best player in the draft, no one thought Babcock made the right call but look how it worked out.

Drafted Joey Graham with 16th pick ([IMG]
Was supposed to go higher, Raps got him at a cheap pick. Only 2 other players were potentially better choices in Green and Granger. Green had a bad attitude and was a big project, he also didnt want to play for Toronto. Granger had some injury worries and also said he'd rather not be in Toronto. Graham showed flashes and provides us some muscle. Babcock made the right call.

Drafted a projected first rounder (Ukic) with the 55(?) pick ([IMG]
Ukic was supposed to go high...he didnt. Raps snagged him up. He's playing over in Spain now which is good and bad. Bad becuase he could of possible been a 3rd point gaurd for us while he was learning...good becuase he gets more chances to mature as a player on a winning team and playing a big part in that experience. Its free seasoning for him basically.

Drafted Slokar with 58(?) pick ©
Had a strong summer league and i think he could be another Matt Bonner. Solid role player potential with a low low low pick

Traded Aaron Williams for 2nd rounders (A)
Aaron Williams had an option on his last year that he would of used since he's not going to see that kind of money again. Gave us some much needed cap room and 2 nice picks for a team thats still rebuilding.

Traded Jalen Rose and Denvers pick this year for Antonio's expiring deal (A)
Getting rid of Jalen's contract was spectacular...and he got 2 things from it. 1) some inside help and 2) an expiring contract to get us a free agent or twothis year. He got injured and was waived but no biggie...we got what we needed the most. I never thought we'd get rid of Jalen's contract...to think all it took us was a 21st overall pick in a draft deemed to be without depth.

Tell me exactly why he didnt deserve a vote?
They guy made a bad draft in Hoffa, a signing that could of worked out but didnt in Alston and then the Vince trade last year. Vince wanted out, was vocal about it, he wasnt trying, his numbers were horrible, he wasnt playing 4th quarters and people still thought of him as a injury risk + that he was faaaaaar to soft. What did you expect him to get for Vince?!?!?!

Babcocks questionable year was last year...in my opinion he performed very good this year and didnt deserve to be fired. That said i like having Brian onboard for the added attraction he is to free agents and Mr. Bosh.

FOR THE LAST TIME...what did you expect them to get for an injury prone player who isnt trying and lets the world know he doesnt want to be there?

He's joking. Geez, lighten up.

The last two moves were Wayne Embry, not Babcock. And I'd give the Graham pick a C at best. But seriously do you actually think he deserved a first place vote? Over Colangelo's Suns reaching the playoffs despite losing Joe Johnson, Quentin Richardson, and Amare? Over Elgin Baylor finally leading the Clippers to the postseason? I mean, he made a couple great moves before he was fired, but the Raps were much worse this year. He didn't deserve any votes, whether it was 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.

Bottom line is the Raptors were still one of the worst teams in the NBA this season and Babcock was responsible for a large part of that. No GM deserves any votes in that position.

And yes, I was just making a joke. There's no need for me to get into this topic again as it's already been discussed to death.

Yeh babcocks 05/06 year was okay at least when you compare it to his pathetic 04/05 in which he crippled our franchise. But man I still don't understand how he could a vote for executive of the year, probably one of his friends or something. Also rumours have it that the CV31 draft pick was due to pressure by embry and Sam Mitchell.

Actually they were Babcock moves. They were on the table set to go down when Babcock was fired. Embry merely tied up the loose ends. Sadly everyone gave credit for those moves to Embry.

Babcock had a good 2nd season, made some good moves that people didnt agree with and fixed 1 of the 3 mistakes he made first year. (Alston and his huge contract for James and his expiring)

Babcock did lead us to a bad season this year...but look what he accomplished. He laced us with talented young guys and he took us from being a good deal over the cap to having tons of cash to spend.

Do i think he deserves it over Colangelo? no, i think BC was the guy that actually deserved it.
I feel that the order of GM's deserving votes this year should be:

1) BC
2) Elgin Baylor
3) Jeff Bower/Rob Babcock

He didnt make us win this year...but we might have the most positive looking future of all the teams in the NBA.

Well thats all speculation. But its clear that Babcock was much too hesitant for his own good. Maybe its because he was too aggressive with the VC trade and it bit him in the ass, or because he valued that 1st rounder too much, but that Jalen rumour had been swirling around all season and he didn't pull the trade off. It wasn't like he was on the verge of making it when he was fired. It looked like he was trying to get more than what Isiah would give up, and the talks had essentially hit a snag. When Embry took over, he assessed the value of that pick, realized the need to get rid of the contract to make the situation more desirable for an incoming GM, and he went through with it. And the Aaron Williams trade was pretty much all Wayne. Both times, I'm giving credit to Embry.

He did have a good 2nd season, but not good enough to be even be in the discussion for Exec of the Year. Babcock did a great job of clearing house to start building a contender, but that's a whole lot easier than actually building a winner. Look at those other names. Baylor, Colangelo, Nelson, Ferry, Dumars. All of them either reshaped the team to further their chances, or significantly increased the team's number of wins. In fact, the only other lottery team on the list was Orlando with Otis Smith, who arguably did just as good a job as Babcock. And he only got 2nd place votes (which is still ridiculous IMO).

Babcock shouldn't even be in the top 3. Any GM who's team improved to a winning record, deserves more credit. Making him 3rd would snub Dumars, West, Petrie, Harris, etc. Wins ultimately is much more important.

It was reported, flat out, that they were both Babcocks moves. He had set them up and yes he was waiting till it got closer to the trade deadline to see if he could get a better deal, not uncommon. After everyone burned him for getting nothing for Vince its only right he try to make sure he got everything possible to get. Babcock should get the credit since he set them up and there's no reason to believe that he wasnt going to finish them up since they were basically done deals.

What did Otis due besides trade a disgruntled former All-star and franchis player for cap space and cap space alone. At least Babcock got 2 solid picks and a 2 solid role players (eric didnt turn out) for Vince.
I cant think why Otis deserves any votes for this years effort to be honest. But ya i guess a first place for Rob is a bit much...but i think its more than reasonable to say that a few 3rd place votes wouldnt of been rediculous.

What has Dumars done this year? He drafted Maxiell and traded Darko for Cato, + lost a solid point in Arroyo in that deal. I dont see why Dumars belongs in that group. Past years sure but this year there wasnt much to do, the Pistons were already a top 3 team.

no they were babcock's moves, aaron williams trade was done for a while but babcock was waiting for closer to the deadline, so was the jalen rose trade but babcock was hoping not to give away the first round draft pick so far away from the deadline. still though...would have colangelo over babcock any day!

it has also come out that it was peddie who pulled the strings on the vince carter trade and not babcock, think it is ridiculous that peddie would stay mute on the subject, thank god colangelo has autonomy now only if the leafs gm could get some autonomy i am sick of this guy interfering in player personel moves.
