<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Bodiddly14:</div><div class="quote_post">If either one of these guys drops into the second round I wouldn't be suprised to JW go make a trade like he did last year for Roberts. I personally would like to see both of them in a Grizz uniform next year. Another player if they drop this far that I think would be a nice pick...Tiago Splitter. Yes, thats right another kid from spain to go with Gasol...doubt he will drop this far but it would be a gift.</div> When you say "those guys", you mean Craig Smith and Leon Powe, right? Anyway, yeah, I'd love to have Tiago Splitter, but I really doubt he slips all the way to #24 unless teams are that scared of his contract, which is unlikely. It's especially unlikely because the Nets have two picks before us, and they're in need of a big man, so even if he fell to the early 20's, he'd likely wind up as a Net.
Grizzlies Pre-Draft Workout <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Denver's Yemi Nicholson (6-11 center), UCLA's Ryan Hollins (7-foot center), George Washington's Pops Mensah-Bonsu (6-9 forward) and Michigan State's Paul Davis (6-11 center) worked out for Griz personnel as they prepared for the June 28 draft. "The biggest difference between college and the NBA is you still have to be able to make that 15-foot shot," Barone said. "That's one of the things we want to find out about these guys. The other part of it is the consistent banging and effort on the glass. In college, they can overwhelm the players they're playing against. They can muscle in and get it done. That's why on every drill we do -- even on defense -- you have to put the ball back in (the basket) so we can see that constant effort." The Grizzlies own the 24th selection and are often criticized for overlooking talent. For example, they chose Illinois' Robert Archibald (No. 32) in 2002 when Duke's double-double machine Carlos Boozer (No. 35) remained on the board in the second round. "It's just that the right fit has to be there, and even when he gets on your team, you have to be willing to keep the faith with the guy," Barone said, explaining the team's draft history. "It's easy to draft if you're Phoenix. They're going to play that way. End of story. "It's like recruiting at Duke and North Carolina. You don't recruit. You select. That's cool. And so in the draft, you might not like a guy so much, but he fits another team, and they love him. ... We're going to look at the pick and whoever intrigues us the most we're going to draft him." Grizzlies Pre-Draft Workout Who: Denver's Yemi Nicholson (6-11 center), UCLA's Ryan Hollins (7-foot center), George Washington's Pops Mensah-Bonsu (6-9 forward) and Michigan State's Paul Davis (6-11 center). Wherewithal: "We tend to work (the big men) harder than they're prepared for. They picked the effort up today as the workout went on." -- Tony Barone Sr., team director of player personnel. What They Said: "I didn't think I shot the ball that well. I played hard and gave a good effort." Hollins, on the quality of his workout. Which guy will go first: Hollins is projected as a mid-second-round pick slightly ahead of Davis. His wingspan is impressive and he runs the floor well. He's considered an excellent shot-blocker and rebounder. The knock on Hollins is his strength. He's easily pushed off the block, but is developing shooting range and post moves. </div> Source

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Cold Eclipse:</div><div class="quote_post">Saturday's workouts Sergio Rodriguez Shannon Brown Guillermo Diaz</div> Where'd you get that info? I read that we were bringing in Rodriguez, so I'm sure it's true, but Grizzlies.Com has been really slow on updating about workouts lately. Their coverage is just horrible.
Hey VC can you tell me how the Paul Davis workout went? Any real good info on how Yemi did against Davis?
Wow VC, what a good night eh? First you land Gay with the Stro Show coming back into town and shipping heart and sole of team out of town. Now you get Alexander Johnson, this year's Lawerence Roberts.....

Anyway, I think Jerry West should be fired. (BTW: Houston fans are dilusional. I'm not going back in that thread because it's 15 vs. 1, and I don't like taking on 15 different people, but they're completely wrong about every player on both the NBA and NCAA level on a consistent basis. Anyone who knows anything about Battier, Gay, and Swift, would know this is one hell of a steal for the Rockets.)
Interesting night for Memphis fans. Battier was a great player and I don't know how I would feel about trading him for the #8 pick in a weak draft, even if it is Rudy Gay. Everyone is calling Jerry West a genius but when the Grizz miss the playoffs this season everyone should know why. Lowry at 24 was an average pick I guess. With guys like Jordan Farmar and Shannon Brown still on the board I would have taken them over Lowry.
Look at the good (for me at least), it's just one more playoff spot in the west. Gasol will have to become a Kobe type player and take 30 shots a game this year. Do you guys still got Bobby Jackson? Your team is starting to look different....
I think the Battier trade for Gay was a good trade on Memhis' part. Battier is great but the Grizz were just going to keep getting knocked out of the first round of that playoffs with that lineup. They need a star on the wing and Gay has the potential to be just that. It may cost them a few playoff berths in the short run but if Gay does turn out to be a star then the Grizz are alot better off.
