<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">ESPN - Marc Stein of ESPN is reporting that sources have informed him the Clippers are likely to seek a trade involving Corey Maggette for the best draft selection they can acquire in return, most likely from a team such as Chicago or Atlanta, who will have a lottery pick, as well as salary cap space. The thinking behind dealing Maggette is that Donald Sterling will be more willing to spend the money to re-sign Sam Cassell and Vladimir Radmanovic if Maggette's salary is shed </div> article raps should get a lotto pick...maybe we could throw in eric williams or matt bonner to sweeten the deal? what does everyone think?
I wouldn't mind getting Magette but the problem is finding him a place to play. The SG and SF positions are already filled, unless we trade MoPete to the Clippers with a draft pick and some filler.
why couldnt mo and magette be interchangable at the 2 spot? or maggette and villa could be interchangable at the 3 spot...depending on matchups, or maggette could just be our sixth man. instant offence off the bench. we've got the cap room, and if all we have to give up is a draft pick and some dead weight, i dont see why not. dont we want all the good players we can get?
I would have liked him a couple season ago, when VC had just left, and Mo-Pete was the only guard/swingman who figured to be in our future plans. But with Villanueva's performance at the 3, and the possibility of Joey Graham improving, I don't think he fits an immediate need. And it looks like the Clips are looking for a top 2 pick.
The Clippers are not going to give up Livingston for the entire Raptors franchise, so no there. Cassell might be a free agent but he won't be interested in a rebuilding situation. Maggette won't be a bad idea, but there would be doubts about whether he could still have his explosiveness pre-injury, and he doesn't really fill a need. I'd rather much use the draft pick to draft a young guy, than having Maggette's contract seriously implicating our freedom in free agency.
Here is C. Maggete contract if anyone is interested: This year the clips are paying him 6.72 mil 06/07 he is to make 7.24 mil 07/08 he is to make 7.84 mil and 08/09 he is to make 8.4 mill His contract wouldn't be a cap destroyer but i just don't think he is worth the money with his injuries and everything. If we were to trade our first rd. pick i would really like it to address are two biggest needs p.g aor centre. But thats my take.

He's important to them but lets not get ridiculous here...he's still very much a project. I dont put his value any higher than Charlie's.

If we were to get Maggette, he should be a starter. He can average close to 20 points a game when he's healthy.

Brand and Kaman pretty much hold down the forward spots. With Cassell's possible departure this summer, Livingston will be needed more than ever. He's still just 20 years old, and his skillset makes him one of the top 10 prospects. Bosh might have great trade value to us and almost any team, but Livingston is just as untradeable to LA as Bosh is to us.
Maggette would be great. He's a solid 2nd option behind Bosh, very consistant and draws a ton of fouls and goes to the free throw line 10 times a game before he got injured. Before he got injured, he took only 10 shots to average over 20 pts a game. So i say thats pretty good and gives the Raps for a 2nd option. He's a very under rated defender too. He's sort of like Paul Pierce without that allstar status.
(aside from my personal bias) this guy is exactly what we need on our team - guy who takes it to the hoop consistantly and gets to the line. Plays hard ... injury problems yes ... but i think he's definately a legit 2nd scoring option for our team. He could probably provide a bit of help for us on the boards too.
Had he not been as fragile as he is, I'd be all over Maggette like a fat kid on a Smartie, but because he hasn't played one full season since he entered this league there's no way I'd take the chance in dealing an "Iron Man" & team leader like Mo Pete for a huge "what if" in Corey. Too risky!
One of the reasons Maggette is being traded is because he doesn't want to be a 6th man. So trading for him in order to use him off the bench would be quite stupid.
