It's officially the offseason for the Lakers. After great improvement from last year, we still need a few pieces to get into champion contending form. This is not a thread for strictly trade ideas, but also types of players that we need. Do NOT make this a "lets get KG" thread, and serious statements only.

Personally, I think the Lakers need:
    1. A young speed demon point guard that can slash into the lane. You got to love the way Leandro Barbosa played against us in the playoffs, and he's the type of player we need. Another good choice would be Mike James. Expect to get a player of his caliber in the draft this year.

    2. A big man "bully" that can score on the post, and bother shots effectively, and is a terrific post defender. We miss the presence that Shaq brought to the team, and though he is not replaceable, we have to start looking for a guy like that. Perhaps a trade for Sean May? Other players I had in mind were Nazr Mohammed, a Joakim Noah-type player, or Eddie Robinson.

    3. A good sixth man. A player I had in mind for this spot would be like a Flip Murray, or Peja Stojakovic.

    4. A 3 point threat. Not a streaky shooter like Sasha, but a consistent shooter like Stojakovic, Quentin Richardson, or James Jones.

    5. A vet. An experienced one that can give us good minutes off the bench and is a great locker room presence.

That's it player wise, now management wise.

    1. Trade off Kwame Brown and Chris Mihm. Mihm was injured for most the season, and isn't much use to us anyway. Brown was good for a while, but we don't need someone that has had the troubles that he has endured.

    2. FIRE MITCH! The only good things he did were sign Smush (which is another candidate for 6th man) and trading Shaq, though we could have gotten more.

    3. Sign Kiki Vandeweghe. He did a lot for the Nuggets organization, and working with Phil could do just as much with the Lakers.

OK, I'm done, post your ideas in here. Remember, we are not working towards "the future" we are working to make a champion team that will last a few years. Kobe is not going to be around forever (LOL I remember when I said the same thing about Shaq back in 2000).

    1. if kwame's case doesn't get settled then i suggest trading him and mihm for a CONSISTENT BIG

    2. Get a good PG... smush should come off the bench and so does walton...
the lakers already have too much role players in smush, sasha, walton etc... all we need are starting 5 players (i would go for cassell)

    3. Get kobe and lamar to bond more... just like MJ and scottie

Keep them both? I would much rather have Mihm and Kwame. Kwame has shown signs of great things to come and when Mihm isn't getting dunked on and hurting his ankle he is a good shot blocker and good inside offense. Like I said before I wouldn't mind getting S. Hunter, Dalembert, Darko, or something similar to them. Young, good shot blocker, and good inside play.

I would definitly see if I could pull some strings and see if we could trade Bynum for Darko. Darko already has shown he is a good defender and has a good jumper and a sweet hook as well as good inside offense.

    1) Continue developing Andrew Bynum. We can't take our eye off this kid. We should concentrate more on him and give him more minutes next season.

    2) Trade Kwame and Mihm. Bring in a veteren big guy that can help Bynum develop. Not only would Bynum develop faster but he'll also get more playing times.

    3) Put Smush on the bench and get a veteren PG to help develop Sasha's ball handling skills and Smush's overall play.

    4) After trading Kwame start Cook at PF. I see Brian turning into a very legitimate Forward.

    5) Draft a PG. Someone with potential that could evolve into something special. Guillermo Diaz could fill this void. PG is one of the main positions we need to fill.

    6) If the Lakers do draft a PG trade either Sasha or Smush. Perferably Sasha. Smush is more rounded than Sasha. Sasha is a pure shooter and we dont need that as of now. We got Kobe and Odom. Trade for a bench PF.

Some of these options may contradict one another but I just listed possible options that could further the development of this team.

    <[PROSPECTIVE LAKERS 3-YEAR CHAMPIONSHIP BLUEPRINT]>

    1. Trade Kobe Bryant for Dwayne Wade and Derek Anderson. (Have fun with THAT, Shaq and Kobe!) [IMG]
    2. Trade Kwame Brown and Chris Mihm for Andrew Bogut.
    3. Trade Smush Parker for Tayshawn Prince.
    4. Let Ronnie Turiaf develop.

Now that is what I call a championship team! Oh, and trade Phil Jackson for Pat Riley.

Magic are NOT trading Darko for Bynum. Darko is a key to our success. We wouldn't have given up a future 1st for Darko if he wasn't going to be a key. I believe Dwight, Jameer, and Darko are untradeable right now for us.

Also to continue from the Game 7 thread about Steven Hunter, he is not an inside offense. He is a good shot blocker, but the majority of the time, he is out of position and attempts to block the shot and leaves his man open for an easy dunk.

Nah, Cook doesn't play any defense and his offense is very limited. Trade him.

    1. Keep Kwame, Kobe, and Odom. This will be the core piece to build on if we can't get KG.

    2. Fire Mitch! Bring in somebody who can make things happen in LA like Kiki Vandeweghe or Isiah Thomas LOL [IMG]

    3. Sign a veteran PG like Sam Cassel. Put Smush on the bench. The Clippers will do their best to keep Sam but I heard Sam said he loves LA and Kobe [IMG]

    4. Trade Mihm and Cook for a big low post player like Carlos Boozer.

    5. Upgrade the bench!

So next year, I hope our starting lineup will be.
    PG: Sam Cassel
    SG: Kobe Bryant
    SF: Lamar Odom
    PG: Carlos Boozer
    C: Kwame Brown

    bench
    PG: Smush Parker
    SG: Sasha
    SF: Luke Walton
    PF: Ronnie Turiaf
    C: Andrew Bynum

    coach: Phil Jackson

[IMG] What that suppose to mean? it's easy to say trade this & that, but actually doing it is very hard. Obviously our player doesn't have much value other than Odom and Bynum. So I don't know man...I guess just let the piece roll into place and see what happen next year.

#1 priority I would say is to get KG if possible. and get a veteran PG. I dont know if experimenting with Kwame is a good idea... I gave up hope on him.

No, not at this point. Lamar starting to show some potential to be an elite player. The problem with him is he doesn't play with aggression during the regular season. But now, he starts to show that. Althought I love Ron Artest for his defensive intensity and his toughness but Lamar has more talent in his offensive game. Though I believe we got a chance to sign him in '08 when he's a free agent. Kobe, Lamar, Ron teaming up, that's a beauty to watch.
