<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Associated Press - In a year that has celebrated the team play of the Detroit Pistons , one of their own is reportedly taking home some hardware of his own. Pistons' center Ben Wallace is reported to have won his fourth defensive player of the year award in five seasons. Wallace is the only other player, besides Dikembe Mutombo, to win this award four times.</div> Damn 4 years out of 5.
I love Big Ben, but thats twice he's won it by default. Last year Artest had the whole brawl thing. This year, Kirilenko, Artest, and Camby couldn't play a full 82 games.

I want to see if he can win it when all those players are not sidelined by injuries during a season. Also I expect Artest to have some comments about Wallace winning instead of him. Anyway congrats Big Ben.
Artest can't talk though. He took himself out of contention, when he decided to mess with a good thing in Indiana.
thought this is a "down year" for ben i think he is a great defender, but i don't think kirilenko missed THAT many games this year (he played 69 games this year and could have played more if jazz weren't out of competition late in the seaason) to be not considered it sounds as if he won by a landslide and i wonder what place did bowen place in? i wonder what would artest say about it if bowen is placed in front of him congratulations ben
How much more is the media going to mess up? Big Ben didn't deserve it. Big whoop, he played in more games. Here's a fun fact for ya though. Despite playing in 13 less games, Kirilenko still managed to get more total blocks, beating out Wallace 220 to 181 in that cat, and he also managed to crack top 20 in steals. And to top it off, Gerald Wallace looks like a better candidate than Wallace. But, like AK, he didn't play all season and he was on a losing team.
hahaha this is the post I would disagree with you Moo2k4 after I totally agreed with you on the other one. I think Ben very deserving of this award. Although Gerald Wallace and AK block ton of shot, they don't possess the defensive presense that Wallace posseses. Most players fear to drive to the basket due to Wallace's presense. And Wallace can lock you up if he wants to. Ron Artest didn't play enough games to consider for the DPoY award, same for Marcus Camby.
A testament to the incredible greatness of Ben Wallace and also to the tremendous lack of great individual defenders in the league today.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting NTC187:</div><div class="quote_post">I didnt really think Ben deserved it either, but really, who else did? No one really.</div> Plenty of others, especially AK47 even if he missed a mere 13 games. AK is 10x better than Ben on defense and offense IMO.
Well I actually did think AK47 was going to win the award, but my only doubt was the amount of games he missed. I also agree that he is proally a better defender than Ben, just because he can guard from anywhere, inside or outside, Ben is more of an inside specialist, but I wouldnt say he is 10x better, they're alot closer than that. And yeah he is alot better on offese, I'm not going to debate that.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Franchise4Ever:</div><div class="quote_post">Plenty of others, especially AK47 even if he missed a mere 13 games. He can't guard guys like Kobe and James because they would kill him. But inside there is no better defender in the league today than Big Ben. Congrats to Big Ben
So what if AK and Artest didn't play enough games, doesn't mean Ben is less deserving. He's the best interior defender in the league, nuff said.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Lostmyluggage:</div><div class="quote_post">Can AK and Artest stop Shaq like Big Ben? Nope.</div> Since when has Ben shut down Shaq? I'm not taking away from Ben but Defense player of the year should go to the best overall defender in the league not just inside defense. If that was the case Zo would have won it.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Lostmyluggage:</div><div class="quote_post">Can AK and Artest stop Shaq like Big Ben? Nope.</div> When did Shaq get stopped by Ben? Also, thats a ridiculous logic. Of course Artest and AK can't stop Shaq, the Diesel outweighs them by over 100 pounds! That's like asking Ben to guard players like Kobe and Carmelo, which Bowen and AK do on a nightly basis.
