I just heard on Pardon the Interrpution..that Artet was quoted saying he will play next season for free if the Kings keep Bonzi Wells and Rick Adelman. Your thoughts?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting vcwannabe15:</div><div class="quote_post">I saw that too. He's probably up to something.</div> Or he just can't resist having the media always around him.
Probably breaks about twenty sections of the Collective bargaining agreement. Artest is known for his sensitivity to the needs of others. I think he got a pretty good reception from adelman and wells, though.
wow? ron artest playing one season for free?? i bet he has a new rap cd coming out................lets just hope it sells more than his first
He is probably bluffing, unless he signs something then it can be official, until then the kings have to pay him his dues. I dont blame him for wanting to keep that team together they almost beat us. (spurs)
Didn't Michael Jordan do something similar? I think he came back one year and only played for $1M, then signed a monster deal over the summer.
These were Jordan's salaries according to this Source. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">1985 $550,000 1986 $630,000 1987 * $737,500 1988 $845,000 1989 $2,000,000 1990 * $2,250,000 1991 $2,500,000 1992 $3,250,000 1993 $4,000,000 1994 $4,000,000 1995 $3,850,000 1996 $3,850,000 1997 $30,140,000 1998 $33,140,000 2002 $1,000,000 2003 $1,030,000 </div> He jumped from an average of $3.5M for 8 years to $30M. An interesting thing I read about Jordan is that in 1997, he threatened to retire as The Bulls were going to trade Scottie Pippen to The Raptors for the 4th pick, which was going to be used to draft Tracy McGrady. Would McGrady have done a better job with Jordan?
Yeah it was 2002, I got the details in reverse. He came back and played at a discount with the Wizards for part ownership of the team. I vaguely remember the trade rumors involving Pippen being sent to Toronto for the pick. I'm sure TMac would have been better alongside Jordan, but I don't think the Bulls would have been as successful in the short term with TMac instead of Pippen.

Wow.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">Yeah it was 2002, I got the details in reverse. Its a conflict of interest to own a team and play for it. Just so everyone knows, Jordan donated that $1 million (veterans minimum) from the Wizards to a chairty having to deal with 9/11. As someone said before it violates collective bargaining for players to play for free. I'm pretty sure that Artest has veteran status, meaning they would have to pay him at least $1 million.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting dtpxcore:</div><div class="quote_post">dumb, hes going to go broke</div> Considering he is already set for life and has made more this season than most people make in their entire lives, I doubt he will go broke anytime soon. Plus, it's not like he is in Latrell Sprewell's situation where he has his kids to feed. I think this is a joke. If Artest does go through with this that will be the ultimate sign of putting the team ahead of himself and I would really respect him for that. He seems like a good guy (who just happens to lose his cool sometimes) and if he did this, it would be setting an example for a lot of today's greedy players who always want more than what they already have.
Anybody who takes this comment seriously is ignorant...I mean i might believe it a TINY TINY bit if it was a player like Steve Nash or a team player, but it is Ron Artest...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting SP23:</div><div class="quote_post">We won't be able to find out anyways, Rick is gone.</div> you never know if they sign bonzi then probably he will play for 50% because no rick but still bonzi therefore free becomes 50%
