I don’t know if anyone remembers me saying that or not, but that is a line I said back in January during a Celtics/Sixers regular season game. Well I didn’t keep track, but lucky I found an article on 82games.com that did. Samuel Dalembert had a total of 120 blocks this season (hurray). However, Dalembert lead the league in goal tending calls this season with a total of 24 meaning he was called for goal tending 17% of the time when he went for a blocked shot. The next closest guy was Joel Pyrzbella who had 15 goal tending calls go against him.

This is my biggest issue with Dalembert. He has no instinct for the ball he just sees it go up, and if it’s within his reach tries to swat it. This is why I feel we need to hire Moses Malone as a full time assistant coach to teach him how to pick his spots. I can’t tell you how many times this season I found myself yelling at the TV, because Dalembert picked up a goal tending call (actually I can 24 times). We need to get a big man coach in to work with him if we keep him this off season I mean we invested 60 million dollars in this kid we need to help our investment.

Also keep in mind Dalembert missed several games due to injury early in the season.

that has always been sammy's problem. he is an ok player, has room to improve, but the guy is just stupid. i really dont think he has gotten much smarter since the whole 5 years he has been in the league. i mean, you look around other teams, most centers / power forwards may get 2 or 3 a season. i have seen almost every laker game this season, and i dont remember one instance when any player was called for a goaltend. yet sammy gets 2 or 3 a game

I would say that if this is the biggest worry on Dalembert then he is a nice guy to have on the team. Don't get me wrong that Goal-Tending % is just horrendous, but you can work on that. I do like how the man rebounds and can get to the basket though. Give him time fellas and trust me we will see that eventually he is going to be a star at the Center spot.
