This was one guy I only got to see play a few times last year and he flat out dominated when I watched him. He surprisingly had a nice stroke on his jumpshot, blocked shots well, and had some very impressive post moves. But I could see him maybe being the Chris Kaman of this year and boosting up the draft board, maybe lottery; mostly because of his 7'0 frame and the dreaded "potential" label.

Yeah, I completely agree. He's very much like Kaman but I dont think he's ambidexterous like Kaman is. Though he is talented, but I cant say much I've only seen him play twice.

Andy Katz is reporting Patrick O'Bryant has signed an agent and will stay in the draft.

I think O'Bryant will go to Seattle, they need a decent centre, and he would be the perfect ft for them IMO.

They already have 2 young C's in Robert Swift and Johan Petro. Plus they have Wilcox who can play center. They probably go for a PF or BPA.

I'm guessing O'Bryant goes to either the Celtics, Warriors, Hornets, or 76ers. I can't see him getting by NOH at 12 unless a top prospect unexpectedly slips.

Swift & Petro are hardly decent centres though, mediocre at best. They havent really proven anything in their time in the NBA.

I haven't been following the Sonics but I believe they were actually playing well down the stretch, Petro especially. I doubt the Sonics would give up on them because they haven't shown anything in their first few years, they're both still only around 20. POB might be a better prospect than them but I think the Sonics would rather go for a PF or SF.

SF sounds the most logical, since they have Nick Collison and Chris Wilcox in the post. Rashard Lewis is also a free agent, and they don't really have much help coming off the bench on the wing.

As for Patrick O'Bryant, I'm a real fan of the kid's game, but like you UKFan, I've only been able to see him a few times this season because they haven't been on t.v. at all, but with his size, length, and overall feel for the game, I think he'll have just as much impact on the next level as Channing Frye or Andrew Bogut.

Are you kidding me, Frye has a mid-range game, and Bogut has some more bulk to him. I believe this guy is going to be a bust because he's a twig! He's one of the kind of players that can't get much bulk due to his body frame. He's a potential guy that could end up like a Marcus Camby or someone that could end up riding the pine in the IBL. I hear Utah is trying to bring him in with Hilton Armstrong by the end the of the month btw.....

I wasn't comparing him to Frye or Bogut. I was saying he'd have the impact they're having, which I still stand by. I wouldn't be so sure about him lacking Frye's range either. He's shown great touch and a dominating hook shot.

Frye could go out and knock down the college 3, I haven't seen O'Bryant make any 15 footer during a game, Free Throws don't care either [IMG] I don't think he'll have much impact right away, I think of him more as a project that will take him 2-3 years before he can contribute. Sure he'll contribute a bit but he'll give it back on the defensive end with his thin frame. I think I'm the only one that thinks he'll be a project, everyone is telling me he's going to come in and contribute but he's been playing mid-major competition. Sure he did good in the tourney, but players like Gray and other aren't that much of NBA type competition. O'Bryant is mostly potential IMO, and I don't see him contributing for a couple years.

i actually saw O'Bryant play in High School a few times and he was horrible. He was just a big body with potential. But, after seeing him just dominate in College it looks like he really worked hard to improve his skills. This could be a sign that he will continue to work hard at the next level

Frye's not a consistent threat from the outside or anything though. He doesn't exactly stretch the defense either. Talking about centers, range isn't really as important as positioning, agility, rebounding, and things like that, all of which O'Bryant displays an excellent feel for or shows room for potential in. His defense was actually one of the areas that I was most impressed with this season, especially as a shot blocker. I also disagree about his frame. It'll allow a lot more weight than Frye's probably. I don't get your point about competition either. Bradley played in the MVC, which was stronger than a lot of 'high major' conferences. You're going to doubt the talent level of players he went up against like Aaron Gray, yet you don't care that every other player in this draft faced nothing but college or international competition all year long? Nobody faces NBA-caliber talent before they actually make the NBA. That's not a weakness at all.

Yeah, apparently O'Bryant's a "late bloomer." I wouldn't know, because no one knew about this kid in high school, so it's hard to go back and look at tapes of how he played then.

Well I haven't seen Frye since he's been in Zona and he was consistent there on the 18 footer. I know O'Bryant has potential, I said that but he isn't going to do much for at least a year or two. Also, MVC has how many players predicted in the first round this year? How many in the draft? Compared to most power conference, sure they've got better college players, but not the same athletiscm that the ACC, Big-12, and Big-10 have. Players that play in those kind of conferences are use to seeing these guys that can jump out of the building, get all over you on D, and make these unbelievable shots. I'm just saying he won't be the contributor that Bogut and Frye are right now, both developed most of their talent in college, O'Bryant is still where he's getting better much like a Marvin Williams or even a Gerald Green. I don't see him coming in getting 10 and 7 night in night out like your saying.

There's a difference between being consistent and being a threat though. Paul Davis was a consistent outside shooter on the college level, but he's not going to be a threat on the next level.

About his potential, is a year or two really that long to wait? Secondly, did you see him towards the end of the season? One of the main things that I love about O'Bryant is that he's always improving. The kid's a workaholic, and he's trying to get better every day. I think you'll be surprised at how effective he'll be his rookie year. Big men his size with his agility only come around so often.

As for playing in a mid-major, there's not really that huge of a talent gap between the MVC and most 'high-major' conferences. Take a players like Paul Miller from Wichita State for example. If you just gave him a little more height, he'd be a first round prospect. Then you have to consider that O'Bryant faced Kansas, Pittsburgh, and Memphis in the tournament and had some of the best games of his career. Funny you bring Bogut back up too. Where'd Bogut play his college ball at again? Oh yeah, Utah, a mid-major.

I don't really consider Utah a mid-major, they've been in the tourney so many times the past few years, and look at some of their tourney runs? They've been put in the category with Gonzaga IMO, dominant mid-major programs. Nevada is starting to get up there with those teams but they still have some work. As for giving inches away, give Chevy Troutman couple inches, give 2-3 inches to Chuck Hayes, give 3 to Salim and he's same size as JJ. They all would be lotto picks if you did that, it's college basketball, anyone can play pretty much anywhere in college. Also, that game against the Oathy Gray isn't much to talk about, Gray flat out sucks if you've watched him. Plus Gray was in foul trouble picking up these stupid fouls. I didn't watch much of the Kansas games but I think I might go and watch it on CBS MMOD. How did he do against Memphis?

Thats what it looks like to me. He used to get killed by high schoolers, but now he looks really promising. I think he will do better than frye if he gets drafted by the right team

Why does it matter how successful Utah is? Your whole point was that Bradley didn't play 'high major' competition, but neither does Utah, no matter how good they are. And Aaron Gray flat out sucks? Are you sure you've watched the kid play? Do yourself a favor and go watch the Kansas and Memphis games...

Bogut played teams like Arizona and Oklahoma, teams that had big men that were good. Bogut had to go up against Frye, Gray, and Bookout. O'Bryant went up against Gray, and some frosh that were on Kansas, o ya and a bunch of no namers on Memphis. O'Bryant had 8 points and 14 rebounds against Memphis, O'Bryant put up 4 points, 8 rebounds against Creighton, 8 points 10 rebounds against Kansas, and finally 9 points and 6 rebounds against Paul Miller in their 2nd meeting, and Miller isn't even being considered as a top 60 prospect. I'm just saying, sure he has height but he isn't ready for the NBA. In the tourney he had 1 good game and then everyone was all up on him like flies on ****! Gray isn't going to even last 5 years in the NBA. He's just another big oathy guy that has survived on his height in college, lets see him put up a double-double against someone his own size, not a guy that's 6'9". Bogut at least dominated college ball, O'Bryant hasn't even come close to dominating when they play someone worth playing.

I thought I might add this, Saer Sene will have a workout with O'Bryant, I guess that should see how good O'Bryant is. If he can't take on Sene, then he might drop but if he can he'll stay where he is. It's on June 3rd for the Celts.....
