If anyone is watching the Mavericks Spurs series, you'll note just how well Dallas are playing with Devin Harris and Jason Terry in the backcourt together. There were probably doubts on whether or not the Mavs would pay to keep Terry this offseason given the emergence of Harris, but I would guess that re-signing him would be a big priority now given they've shown they can co-exist.

Stackhouse and Howard can both play the two as well, so it means Daniels is the odd man out. I remember he had that breakout rookie season and was rewarded with a pretty decent deal (full MLE I think), but since then injuries have set him back and he can't crack the rotation consistently. He can play both guard spots effectively and some SF, and is also a pretty decent perimeter defender.

Given we're seemingly looking at exactly the same sort of player in the draft, would he be worth enquiring about? What would you give up? Would our first and second rounder for Daniels and Dallas' first rounder be too much to pay, given we already have Memphis' second rounder?

Discuss, this forum needs some life before the draft lottery.

I'm not sure I would do it. We could get a similar player (Brandon Roy) in the draft.

I'd take Roy over Daniels, but unless we get a top three pick, I don't see how he slips to 11 at this point. Still, people said the same about Danny Granger and Gerald Green last year I guess.

I don't think we could afford him but I'd love to have him on the team. He is capable of playing and defending all three perimeter positions and he is a natural scorer.

I've liked him since he was at Auburn and I was praying that we could steal him from Dallas after his rookie season. Cuban gave him 40 million over 6 and the rest is history.

But I agree with the panel. There is enough talent in the draft at the wing position that we don't need to give up draft picks for a guy who is still scheduled to make about 30 million over the next five seasons. We have too much money that we need in reserve for the likes of Wilcox, Sweet Lew (reluctantly), Collison, and Bobby Swift to be expecting management to bypass potential cost efficient talent for the likes of an underachieving overpaid player in Marquis Daniels.

I still love his game and I hope that we can get him in the green and gold before his career is done. Again though, if I had a preference as to what wing player I would be positioning myself to get it would be Andres Nocioni.

I hate to be picky (well, not really [IMG] ) but didn't you just describe Damien Wilkins? I'll admit he's not really a natural scorer, but he's a great finisher. People seem to forget that we were near the top of the NBA in ppg. Scoring isn't really an issue anyway.

We still haven't seen what a whole year with Watson and Wilcox will be like from a defensive standpoint.

Does anyone think that Marquis is so much better than Damien that we should pay to pick him up? I sure don't. Damien is a bargain.

It seems like we're going to be packed with 2's and 3's next season. We've got D-Wilk currently...then we have Gelabale coming over plus our draft pick (ahem...Brandon Roy). Daniels is a good player for sure...I'm sure he'll bounce back from this season. But like you guys have mentioned, we do have to sign Wilcox and dont even mention the word "money" around the front office. The draft choice would probably work better in our situation.
