NIT Tip-Off Tournament Field: The University of North Carolina, which won the NCAA National Championship in 2005 headlines a field which includes Baylor, Belmont, Butler, Colorado State, Fordham, Gonzaga, Indiana, Iona, Lafayette, North Carolina-Wilmington, Notre Dame, Rice, Sacred Heart, Tennessee and Winthrop.
Does this mean Gonzaga won't play in the Maui Invitational this year? This is a pretty good field of teams for this tournament, my early prediction would be UNC and Butler playing in the championship game.

Here's the lineup for that tournament (in order of how good they'll probably be) - Georgia Tech UCLA Kentucky Memphis DePaul Purdue Oklahoma Chaminade As for the Preseason NIT field, the roster is relatively weak. Last year you had some of the greatest teams in all of college basketball: Duke, UCLA, Memphis, and Alabama (pre-Davis injury). North Carolina will be one of the most dominant teams in the NCAA, and Tennessee should be a top 25 team again. I also like what both Indiana and Gonzaga are doing. They've got depleted lineupes, but they've still got parts of their core from their teams last year, like D.J. White and Derek Raivio. However, it's just not comparable to the tournament of last year. I see three or four teams in this field finishing in the rankings. It should be interesting to see Josh Smith (Colorado State) go up against some good competition on national television though. From everything I've seen from him, he's got first round potential in next year's draft, but he plays in such a small conference that he doesn't get that much exposure, so this tournament could do wonders for his stock, or maybe even kill it if he has a poor showing.
