<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">USA TODAY's David DuPree assesses the play of Miami's versatile veteran:
What he's doing: Antoine Walker, the 6-9 forward who came to the Miami Heat from the Boston Celtics in a five-team trade last summer, has been an effective third option to Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O'Neal. He has averaged 14.3 points and 5.7 rebounds in the first two rounds of the playoffs and has made 13 three-pointers in the past three games alone.

How he's doing it: He is spotting up for his three-pointers but is also going to the basket more than he did during the regular season. He has also taken advantage of his height and posted up more than usual. "He's shooting the ball extremely well for us," teammate Udonis Haslem said. "Everybody knows he's a talented offensive player. He's just showing what he can do."

Why it's working: Walker has a quick release and will shoot from almost anywhere. He has had better shot selection during the playoffs. He has been very conscious of spacing and has stayed out of the way of Wade and O'Neal. He is also one of the best on the team at feeding O'Neal in the post. "Like I've said before, this is a team," Walker said. "No matter who does it, how it comes, how we win, we're trying to get 16 wins. We've got eight of them so far."

Look at Walker's numbers when he's started for the Heat in the regular season compared to coming off the bench:

    http://www.nba.com/playerfile/antoine_walk...son_splits.html

SPLIT G GS MPG FG% 3P% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG PPG
    As a starter 19 19 34.5 .472 .363 .571 1.2 4.4 5.6 2.4 .7 .42 15.2
    As a substitute 63 0 24.5 .422 .356 .649 1.3 3.7 5.0 1.9 .5 .35 11.3

Kinda makes you wonder how much Riley's ego is gonna be a factor in our title run if he didn't realize that Walker should've been starting for a struggling Posey (who coincidently has all of a sudden found his niche as a key bench player). All season long Riley maintained and insisted that Posey be a starter because that's how he originally envisioned the team. It took a Posey injury during the last month 1/2 for Walker to get consistant starts and the Heat to take off. Where would be now if it wasn't for that injury? I guess it's true that everything happens for a reason.

Walker emerging as a scorer is great for our chances. What's good is that he was already getting you dimes, rebounds, steals, and some other intangibles like pushing the tempo, running fast breaks, making great passes, getting teammates to the line, and the occasional appearance on defense.

And I think he's showing signs of maturing as far as on court antics. We haven't seen that Shimmy one time this season. Instead, it's been more of this:
