ORLANDO - Orlando Magic general manager Otis Smith isn't usually one to show a lot of emotion, so his pumping fists and loud yell following the NBA's Draft Lottery Tuesday night seemed totally out of character.

No, the Magic didn't win the draft lottery, and will pick 11th in the June 28th NBA Draft as they expected heading into Tuesday night. Instead, the source of Smith's joy was two-pronged: He was delighted the Magic didn't fall any lower than the 11th pick and he was happy that the team won't be involved in the lottery process next year. In what could be considered somewhat of a guarantee, Smith vowed that the Magic will be thinking playoffs this time next year as opposed to their status in the lottery.

"I really think this is the last time we're going to be doing this for a very, very long time," said Smith, whose rebuilt Magic went a franchise-best 16-6 down the stretch to buoy hopes heading into next season.

"The goal is not to get 40 wins," Smith continued. "The goal is to win a championship and let the community, our players and coaches know that the goal is to win a championship and not be in the lottery again. I'll say it a thousand times if I have to, not to get me to believe it -- because I do -- but to get our guys to believe that we have as good a chance of winning a championship as any other team does."</div>

Rumor has it that we are focusing on drafting Fran Vasquez's girlfriend with the 11th overall selection.

We need a shooter yes, but we need defense out of our SG spot. Jameer isn't exactly the best defender because of his size. We need someone who can guard the big PG's. Could you imagine how many layups a team would get with a Jameer, JJ, Hedo starting PG, SG, SF???? That's why I would rather get a Brandon Roy/Shannon Brown/Ronnie Brewer type person.
