Carlesimo & others on the list of who to interview <font color="Blue">ESPN is reporting </font>that the Maloofs have confirmed that Carlesimo is on the list of candidates for the coaching job. While the organization has not dropped any other names, Elie and Whisenant are a couple names that ESPN is trotting out in the article. Probably the most telling part of the article are their statements regarding Nelson <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Nelson's reputation for free-wheeling offense -- as opposed to the defensive mindset Sacramento craves now that Artest is a King -- gave the Kings some hesitation. "We love Nellie," Maloof said. "But we do feel like defense has to be the priority.</div> Larry Brown is apperently not going to be an option. Per Joe Maloof the organization "hasnt even given {Brown} a thought". My .02? While Carlesimo is probably one of the best candidates for the job currently, I cant help but think back to his confrontation with Spree and have some concerns with how he and Artest will get along. I know its not fair to either of them to really bring that into the mix because Artest has pretty much stepped up and given leadership to a team that was (lets face it) pretty lacking in that area... but you cant help but wonder if the two of them might wind up going the same way. (I dont really think that would happen, but I just cant help thinking that the potential is there). Whisenant is a surprise name to me being on this list, but he did win a WNBA championship. sure there are disimilarities but it is b-ball and the guy does know the game. I dont think he will get the nod though. I really wish that Elston Turner was on that list as well because I think he is ready to step up to being a head coach and did a great job working with the Kings defensive game plans. But the chances are that it would be seen as more of the same thing in many circles.
Artest and Spree are two different types of drama. Artest is more gentle than the media makes him out to be, he just doesn't think before he acts and doesn't have a lot of common sense. Spree on the other hand premeditates his actions, and is more of a loose canon. I remember Spree going back to NY when he was with Minny, and everytime he scored he cussed at the owner and GM sitting on the sideline. He did the same thing when he made his first return to Golden State. He's a clown.
i totally agree with you that they are two very different personalities. But Artest has been a hothead in the past & Carlesimo has been known to ride players in the past harder than he should.... All Im saying is what happens if Carlesimo starts riding Artest about something & Artest blows up on him... as I stated before... I doubt it would actually happen... but the potential is there & you HAVE to look at that part of it. I am almost ready to say that I was completely wrong about Artest (most of you know that I was dead set against the trade that brought him here) and if he does next year what he did through this season, then I will take back every mean thing I ever said about him... But you cant really blame me for being on the lookout for something like this.
