<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Billy King talked the talk on Tuesday evening, an hour or so before his team participated in its second NBA Draft Lottery in three seasons.

The well-dressed, well-manicured, bespectacled King said all the right things at the NBA Entertainment offices in Secaucus. He vowed to make changes, to act as if he was new to the job, to put together a product that fans could be proud of.

He talked about changing the "culture" that has "permeated" the team. He promised that things would be different this coming season, on and off the court.

"I think it's about chemistry and guys believing in each other," said King, the Sixers' 40-year-old president and general manager. "We're going to try to shake it up as much as possible, but also come back with a cohesive unit."

King was asked if he felt any urgency to do something, particularly with the memory in a lot of fans' minds about the debacle on Fan Appreciation Night. That night, Allen Iverson and Chris Webber showed up at tip-off (although they weren't going to play) and did not sit on the bench with the team.

"The only way that's going to go away is when fans come back," said King, who said making a trade wouldn't necessarily take that bitter feeling away. "We've got to work hard and promise our fans that we're going to do things in a first-class manner. This organization, from the time that Comcast took over, prided itself on doing things a certain way. I think we've lost our way a little bit, really under my direction. It's up to me to make sure we get back on track.

"That's all I can say (to the fans) is trust me and have confidence. I'm going to do the best I can."

Forgive the fans if they're saying, "Yeah, right pal" right now.

Actions speak far louder than words. The Sixers' first action in the offseason? They fired vice president of communications Karen Frascona, who was known for her 80-hour work weeks.

The time has come for King to walk the walk and build a team that can compete night in and night out. A team that gives its all -- on both ends of the floor. A team that plays with pride and passion. A team that has heart.

That team was not on display the 2005-06 season for the Sixers, which is why they finished just 38-44 and missed the playoffs.

The Sixers have gone just 114-132 and missed the playoffs in two of three years since Larry Brown resigned as head coach in May of 2003.

There seems to be a chance that the team may part ways with Iverson. Placing defensive-minded role players around Iverson works, as it did during the Brown era in Philadelphia. Placing subpar defenders and so-so scorers around him, does not work, which is what they've done the last few seasons.

Rumors continue to circulate that Iverson -- who reportedly would not be opposed to a trade -- could be headed to Atlanta, one of his favorite offseason spots, Denver, Minnesota or any place in between.

Atlanta may be the most likely destination since at least a portion of Hawks ownership apparently wants Iverson (did someone say ticket sales?).

The Hawks also have salary cap flexibility. They're projected to be about $20 million below the cap for 2006-07, meaning they don't have to match the money up. They could trade a young player (maybe Josh Smith) and say a draft pick for Iverson, despite the fact that Iverson will make $18 million next season.

Then, Webber has two years (and $43 million) remaining on his contract, so after the 2007-08 season, the Sixers could have plenty of salary cap flexibility.

However, there are plenty of decisions to be made before then.

    Talk is cheap.

The article basically summarized what every fan thinks when they hear King talk. It’s gotten to the point where no one even pays attention to him any more. However, I’m going out on a limb here and say he will pull off some big moves this off season, because if he doesn't he is as good as gone.
