<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Only four wins stand between him and a championship ring, yet Alonzo Mourning still can find the time to trash the Nets management that gave him a $22 million contract when he had only one functioning kidney. In an interview following the Heat's victory over the Pistons, Mourning reiterated that he didn't see a commitment to winning in the Nets ownership when he asked out of New Jersey in 2004. Mourning however did not repeat his claim that the Nets tried to kill him by overplaying him. </div> Source He is the exact reason I want Miami to lose.
Zo is one of those player's you love to have on your team but hate him when he's not on your team. The Nets fans have more incentive to hate him, but trust me, he's one of those guys that ANY TEAM in the NBA could and should have. He would start for any team in the NBA not named Miami. He brings a lot of toughness to a team and that's one thing the Heat seriously lack. The toughness part is a huge part of breaking down the other team's morality and Mourning knows it's another part of the game that only teams like Detroit and Chicago play. If you guys saw the ECF he was always picking on Tayshaun Prince and fouling the Pistons hard. When a foul was called and the players are just standing there just waiting for the refs to do their thing, Tayshaun was NOT allowed to practice layups as long as Mourning was around the rim. He let that Pistons' team know what time it is and that ish wasn't gonna ride as long as he's on the floor, whether the game is in play or not. Trust me man he's just one of those guys you root for when he's on your team but hate him when you have to play against his team. He plays with a passion on the court that only a hard-core fan who is dying for his team to win would know about it.
These kind remarks can turn alot against of people against him and tarnish his kidney story and the support he gets.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting The Soft Parade:</div><div class="quote_post">These kind remarks can turn alot against of people against him and tarnish his kidney story and the support he gets.</div>He gets support because people who know him off court know what a great person he is. He does a lot of charity work that goes unnoticed and has fought a lot of adversity to where he is today. He's an inspiration to a lot of orphan children and to people who suffering from focal glomerulosclerosis. He definetly doesn't need basketball to help shape opinions about what kinda player he is offcourt and people shouldn't judge him by that either.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">He would start for any team in the NBA not named Miami.</div> He wouldn't start for: Houston Pheonix Detroit Cleveland Orlando Utah Denver Milwaukee New York And it'd be arguable if he'd start in: Indiana Dallas San Antonio Sacramento That's about half the NBA. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">If you guys saw the ECF he was always picking on Tayshaun Prince and fouling the Pistons hard. It's called false bravado. That fight he got into with Tay after he dunked on Mourning was unneccessary and foolish. He got dunked on (just like always) so he should man up and take it, but instead he has to go jabbing his mouth like Tayshaun shoved him. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">He plays with a passion on the court that only a hard-core fan who is dying for his team to win would know about it</div> WHat are you trying to say? That us Nets fans aren't hard-core? For a long time, we were the bottom feeders of the league, more than your heat. The laughing stock. For awhile, Shawn Bradley was one of our best players for Pete's sake. Let me tell you something about Alonzo Mourning, since you seem to not remember. Alonzo isn't that great of a guy. I used to love him on Charolette and what he did for them. Alonzo, Larry Johnson (my favorite player at the time), Mugsy, Dell Curry, Hersey Hawkins, it goes on. Basically they were an offensive machine, though their defense put them back into place. That's where Alonzo comes in yapping away and breaking up the team. He didn't like Larry Johnson and he wanted a big fat contract (just like he did with the Nets) and forced a trade. At that time, I gave him leeway cause plenty of players have done it in the past and a man is entitled to his opinion. Then came that Knicks series where he goes mouthing off and starting a fight with Larry Johnson, but that'll be forever remembered by Jeff Van Gundy's tagging of Mourning. Guy can't just keep his mouth shut and play the game. Then he came to the Nets asking for a gauranteed contract. He played a few games and then quickly left claiming kidney problems. He was garunteed 20 million dollars for 4 years. That's 5 million a year if you need to see a number. It looked like he was not to return or ever get better so the Nets' lineup was only shortened and that year in particular the Nets failed to get into the finals for the first time since Kidd arrived. Kidd played with one leg the entire season but Mourning couldn't muster up the strength to play Where was his complaints that the Nets were trying to lose then? He didn't even play 20 games. He could've helped, but of course he was just a fool sitting on the bench. Changes had to be made, so it led to the outing of Kenyon Martin and Kittles. He complained about the Nets wanting to lose and not having the will to win...Well if he didn't charge us so high to sit on a bench, maybe we could've kept some of our players. So he wanted a buy out...that included ALL of his money. WTF is up with that? he didn't even play 40 games with us and he wanted 20 million? Forget that the Nets lost in the 2nd round because of him, forget that they paid ALL of his hospital bills (and I bet they were costly) and forget that all the players made sacrifices to get him there, but he wanted money. He's just a greedy sob. I'm tired of his ass. Last season when he first joined Miami, all he did was flex after everything. Shaq dunked the ball, he starts flexing. He got a rebound, he started flexing. Wade made a a lay up he started flexing. Who the hell does he think he is? Not only is he greedy, but he's some sort of camera hog too. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">He definetly doesn't need basketball to help shape opinions about what kinda player he is offcourt and people shouldn't judge him by that either.</div> People judge what they see. A lot of NBA players do charity. Hell, I do chairty work and donate part of my salary to causes, but that doesn't tell the type of person I am. Bill Gates donates a lot of money to charity, but I'm sure he's looking at it more as a big tax write off. A lot of celebrities do charity work for publicity, and I wouldn't put that past Mourning. The guy thinks of no one but himself. He's greedy, he's a prick, he's an asss, and deserves all the failures that come to him. I'm tired of his large mouth. Don't expect me to care at all about him when he does nothing else but serve for him. I wouldn't want him on my team if we had a frontcourt line up of Pat Burke, Luke Walton, Chris Dudley, Bill Wennington, Jamie Feik, Evan Eschemeyer.
I agree you New Jersey guys hav reason to pissed for Zo's comments, but us Raps fans have even more reason to hate him. If he were in Toronto he could've helped Cb4 and CV31 develop while giving us a strong inside opresence, but he thought he was to good for TO and refused to rrport.
Well I'm Zo's fan but this isn't a classy act at all. I understand why Nets and Rap fans are pissed off at him and I won't know how to defend him other than maybe he wanted to win a ring so bad that he thought it was OK to piss some people off and go for his personal goal.
I won't even respond to nextlevelgame cuz: a) his posts are longer than a lifetime. seriously, the best responses are short and to the point, but if you feel you must take paragraphs to answer a question, then I respect that. I just wouldn't bother responding to them. he thinks I'm here to cause problems or something and nothing good will come out of it. I know Nets fans will always hate Zo so I think I'll just go ahead and leave... I will answer some of the Q's he managed to bring up: Yes, Zo would start on any NBA team not named Miami. Maybe not for the Suns because they're style of basketball is unorthodox (and for a good reason too; it never gets the job done when it matters). But you better believe he'd be the best Center on that team if they ever had one. And what you call 'false bravado' is what a good % of championship teams in the history of the NBA have had. Coincidence?
Zo should not be talking at all...the Nets gave him a chance when no one wanted him and we paid him good money too. What does he do for us? He screws us over because he doesn't like the situation he was in. He didn't want to work anymore for a championship, he wanted it easy and so he went to Miami. Not only did he not try when the Nets signed him, he continues to bash us now. I understand the whole situation with the kidney, but get over it already. Are you going to make the same excuse all the time? The way he is acting now is disgusting, this guy deserves no championship. Now I truly understand how Raptor fans feel because Carter did the same thing Zo did. Both didn't play hard but I guess you have to let it go. In Zo's case you can't let it go because unlike Carter he keeps on dissing the Nets, which was the only team that gave him a chance. That shows the man he really is.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">a) his posts are longer than a lifetime. seriously, the best responses are short and to the point, but if you feel you must take paragraphs to answer a question, </div> There was no question. I was telling you Zo's career that you convienently forgot about. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">And what you call 'false bravado' is what a good % of championship teams in the history of the NBA have had. Coincidence?</div> No championship teams have swagger cause they've done something. Zo has not. Some guy coming off the bench with 3 pts 4 rebounds shouldn't be talking so much trash. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Yes, Zo would start on any NBA team not named Miami.</div> Start on what? Center? He's not quick or fast enough to play power forward anymore. All those teams would not start him. He wouldn't start on Sacramento cause Brad Miller runs their offense with his great passing.
Dude the guy pratically bought him out of the raptors, so don't blame us Miami fans, us raps and nets have the right to hate him.
It's okay to be annoyed, as I am for the stupid comments he's made, but to hate him is just unfair. It's not like he left the team anyway. We're the ones who traded him remember? I'd really like for him to win a ring this year, but the comments tend to get old and annoying.
I can understand why Miami fans love him and how he's such a great guy off the court, but can anyone defend these comments he's making? They're so out of context and unnecessarily vindictive. If there's one thing I hate about Zo, it's that he tries to pass himself off as the classy veteran who provides leadership. But, this is the tail end of his career, and he's still acting as immature as the worst rookies.
