This happen on Sunday but seemed to have gotten lost with all the things with TO happening.

    It's a 5 year extension.

What do Eagle fans think about this? Wouldn't you rather have the team take a shot at a RB who can run up the gut and outside instead of a RB who is more like a WR. I mean Shaun Alexander is out there and there are a lot of talks that the Colts might part ways with Edge this off-season. Ahman Green even though he's old might be an option as well for a year or two.

I dont think this is a good idea at all. Just look at wht hes done this year. Maybe if hes given more carries he'll average around 3.5 a carry. I think they shouldve waited for a better RB in the offseason or tried to get one in the draft.

This was a message to TO....be a good boy and play nice with others and the eagles will pay you....be an idiot and we send you to the corner without a football....its a good move for the Eagles, thier lack of a running game isnt because Westbrook cant do it.....

Westbrook hasn't really proved that he can be a RB that can carry the load though. Yeah Philly has problems with their line but the RB still needs to be dependable. Even Duce Staley was dependable for them a few years back but Westbrook has never even gone over a 1,000 yards rushing in his career. I'm not a fan of dishing out money and a contract to another player just to get back at someone else.

It's tough for any RB to get into a rythym and be dependable when he only carries the ball 10-15 times a game.

Brian Westbrook deserves to be a great #2 back, he has amazing recieving skills but can run 25 times a game.

I like it. Westbrook fits in well with the Eagles offense. This year he hasn't done much, but they need to get him the ball more. I know he hasn't gone over 1k yards rushing, but he was pretty high in total yards last year. For a passing offense, that's acceptable.

I think it was a bit more than they should have spent as far as production, talent, and potential, but they should be ok with cap, but really they need a pound it up the middle guy.

or maybe because you don't want to have to change your name at seasons end. [IMG]

Anyways isn't Brian Westbrook a Running back. Isn't the job of a Running back to run the ball and be effective inside the lines. When I first came on this site you bashed Mike Vick for not being a true player at his position on the field. Now your defending Westbrook and the Eagles for overpaying him for that same purpose.

I rather have the RB that can run in between the lines and control the clock than one that can come out of the backfields. Plus with the team doing poorly maybe change is good. Obviously McNabb is the most "important" player (if there is one in football) on the team so losing Westbrook for Edge wouldn't be a big deal. That's if you can get him though.

They need to get him a back like the giants have right now like Brandon Jacobs who can carry the ball on third down and near the goalline.

Brian Westbrook is a great back though, he has hands like a receiver, his durability is his only concern however
