Okay, this thread isn't meant to be offensive ... it was funny to me, yet an interesting and very real question that was brought up by my one of my colleagues. The question is 'would you ever buy a Rudy Gay jersey.' Answer honestly... Do you think he even has a chance to sell jerseys and how does this affect his marketability.
LMAO damn I can't believe this has never crossed my mind....Answer: HELL NO! But if he ever did make a jersey, he would want to be like Ming Yao, and put Rudy on the back of it.
I never thought of that either. No way am I homophob or anything, but I wouldn`t buy the jersey. Like sk8board said, maybe he can get Rudy on the back.
He should probably see his rookie season how many jerseys of only 'Gay' on the back he sells. And then if it's a low amount change it, and see what happens. I think he'll just leave 'Gay'.
Initially, they probably wouldn't sell well. But if he turns out to be a star, and he becomes a "household name", then I think the jersey sales should go up.
Agree with Durvasa, but I honeslty think its hell ...shallow. and stupid to changef your name. If I liked rudy gay and supported him, I'd buy his jersey if it said gay on it.

LOL good question notmuchgame. Umm...I really don't know if I would wear that either. Especially in NY, a guy wearing a jersey with "Gay" on it will catch a lotta looks from..........guys. And there're people who dont follow basketball. People will wonder why I'm wearing a jersey with Gay on it.
A jersey with "GAY" on the back of it will never sell. Only to homosexuals just to support their sexuality in the NBA.
I just wonder what happens if he becomes like MJ type player.(I'm just saying if....don't start anything!) Would people still not wear it?
I don't think it'll be as poor of a seller as you guys think. Aside from the Rudy Gay fans, the UConn fans, and the fans of the team that drafts him, there will probably be a lot of kids who think it's funny. I remember when Gregor F<font color=""Black"">ucka</font> (pronounced foo-ch-ka) was being worked out by the Pacers a year or two ago and how many people were salivating over the chance of buying a "F<font color=""Black"">ucka</font>" jersey. You could see the same thing happening here.
He better ask the people to put rudy on his jersey.. lol.. wonder someone walking with gay on their jersey.. lol
I know it was initially said tounge-in-cheek, but how insulting would it be to Gay if they approached him about putting his first name on the jersey? He'll be 20 years old this season, and you don't think he has coped with his last name yet? He's old enough to get it legally changed and hasn't, so why would he all of a sudden disown it now?
gay: -Showing or characterized by cheerfulness and lighthearted excitement; merry. -Bright or lively, especially in color: a gay, sunny room. -Given to social pleasures. -Dissolute; licentious.

Some people here would see that as a....well an endless # of negative possibilities. He's right about the # of people that don't follow basketball either. But then again I could see a lot of funny conversations at school being started over this guy's last name. I want a Luther Head jersey now. If they ever made one I would buy it. I would wear it to every party and club I go to.
I've always thought about this....lol. Voodoo Child is right about how insulting it would be to change his name. But still, I wouldn't wear it. Damn, can you imagine if he somehow went to the Nuggets, and they put out a retro jersey?
^^dude thats funny, i dont know, im not much of a jersey wearer, so i dont care. If he becomes a beast for the wolves then i might get one though

By no means am i homophobic nor am I close minded, but in all honestly, I would never rock a Jersey with 'Gay' on the back ... call me shallow but I wouldnt be able to deal with the giggles and weird looks

For anyone with a sense of humor or any guts, buying a Rudy Gay jersey will seem appealing.
