Sorry for off-topic post.</div> There was an old covenant as described in the Old Testament, which set apart Israel as a distinct nation, God's nation. It included many things to help the people remember God in their lives, because the nation of Israel kept turning to false gods and sacrificing to idols. following the Sabbath (on Saturday), other festivals, getting circumcised on the 8th day after birth, passover lamb sacrifice, burnt offerings, not eating fish that do not have fins or scales, not eating birds of prey (eagles, hawks, raven, vultures, etc.), etc. Not eating pork was one of the food restrictions. The new covenant as described in the New Testament, says in multiple places that all things are clean for us: <u>Colossians 2:16</u> "Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day." <u>Mark 7:18-23</u> 18And He said to them, "Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him, 19because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?" (Thus He declared all foods clean.) 20And He was saying, "That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. 21"For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, 22deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness. 23"All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man." <u>Chapter 14 of Romans addresses this subject:</u> <u>Rom 14:2-3</u> " 2One person has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats vegetables only." 3The one who eats is not to regard with contempt the one who does not eat, and the one who does not eat is not to judge the one who eats, for God has accepted him. <u>Rom 14:13-17</u> 13Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather determine this--not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother's way. 14I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but to him who thinks anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. 15For if because of food your brother is hurt, you are no longer walking according to love Do not destroy with your food him for whom Christ died. 16Therefore do not let what is for you a good thing be spoken of as evil; 17for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. I hope that clears things up for you Pakman.

Sorry for off-topic post. </div> its in the old testament rather than the new that says you shouldn't eat pork I think Leviticus I will post it up when I've looked and the old testament is basically the torah and people say that in the new testament it says its ok to eat pork but its clearly not. I think skip is quoting from the new testament (sorry to tired to read properly) but I have pages that will prove he is wrong about it or if anyone else does. Pork has also been proven not to be helpful to your body by doctors and so on. I'll post up some more info when its not 1 in the morning or ill start a thread in religion.

And, getting circumcised can also prevent illnesses. Most of the Islamic laws are also supported by science. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting SkiptoMyLue11:</div><div class="quote_post"> I hope that clears things up for you Pakman. </div> It does, but bronbron23 says its from New Testament and Old Testament clearly states that pork is not allowed.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Pakman:</div><div class="quote_post"> It does, but bronbron23 says its from New Testament and Old Testament clearly states that pork is not allowed.</div> To be honest there are loads of contradictions in the bible between the old and new testament, the eating of clean and unclean meat being one of them. But this can be blamed on statements being ambiguos which, is because of or can be explained by translation from the language it is written in to english, eg. which is why people say jesus was not gods son its just a bad translation and if you look in the bible its written many times "god's son" or "god's sons" when describing prophets eg adam. Or its just the way people like to view things. For example people who like to eat pork will say "it's ok look at this quote from the bible". Put it this way... Jesus was a practicing hebrew therefore he would of never ate pork... Another point I can make is: Jesus says in Mathew, that i am not here to make new laws, but to reinforce the laws of those which have gone before, in particular the commandments and those of the pentituch (the first five books of the old testament)(In which pork is condemned, Leviticus), anyone who strays from these laws in the slightest is in eternal hell and anyone who follows them in the slightest is in heaven, these are the laws of moses - a hebrew. My point being that jesus came to solidify the laws made before him therefore in my view you shouldn't eat pork. I just remembered that we are supposed to be discussing gay marriages so sorry for coming off topic.
I don't want to hijack this thread, so if you want me to list all the food restrictions of the Old Testament in more detail, or where it is discussed that all foods are clean for followers of Christ. You can pm me, or just make a relevant thread and I'll reply.
I'm for gay marriage. I'm not gay, but I think they have the right to get married like anyone else does. Bush is trying to justify by saying "the Bible says that gay marriage is wrong." But what about the separtation of church and state? A law cannot be justified based on a religious belief.
I'm and exec on my school's student council, and today my principal tells me that we have to do a matchmaker service that caters to gays now too (on valentine's day, you all know those questionnares that tells you which people you match up best with in your school). Not only does it cost us more money, but I'm going to be on some gay guys list. That creeps the hell out of me.
I hope I'm on your list XSV lol I just hope being on some random gay guy's list doesn't traumatize you too badly.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">How gullible must people be to believe what is written in the bible?</div> Well you are to some extent, when you consider the norms and values of society: do not steal, do not murder and so on which are set though the bible.

I only know one kid at my school, and he told only the girls in one of his class and he hangs out with only girls...not a lot of people know he's gay cause if everyone (more "popular or "badder" kids) found out, that guy would always be ridiculed and looked down upon.
<div class="quote_poster">I-Miss-MJ Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">How gullible must people be to believe what is written in the bible?</div> Thou shalt not murder... yea, why would anybody bother with that?
Man, if every guy here were trapped inside a woman's body you know you guys would go after any of the following: Angelina Jolie Jessica Alba Natalie Portman Keira Knightley Charlize Theron Scarlett Johansen and so on I think the only reason a lot of guys feel so strongly against gay marriage is mainly because of the religious term "marriage" and how that goes against religious doctrine. The other is how that might challenge the church's or whatever religion's ideals about what a real family should be like if they are same sex couples that choose to adopt children or get a "dna" donor. Another is the sodomy (another religious term) that will probably go on between male couples, but it can also happen between straight couples. What goes on behind closed doors is their business IMO, just never speak of it unless it happens to be some hot girl on girl action. But for those who aren't religious, I think it's because if anything involves a dude, it's kind of gross, man. But I'm sure if there was a ray gun that turned everyone straight into gay people, they'd think differently about how limited their life would be because of society and the pressure turned against them. i.e. they feel they cannot achieve the American dream compared to "normal" people because they would be treated like outcasts. But since I'm straight, I'll go with the side that's willing to call gay marriage something else and not challenge other's traditional beliefs or terminology. Call it "gay union" but not marriage. No group should force their beliefs on others like how gays and lesbians are doing it to churches to be acknowledged and how some churches are doing it to society. I mean to each his/her own. It makes life more interesting. Now if my wife should ever turn gay and marry someone else that's a woman. Damn, then I'll probably change my stance quickly. LOL. I'd hope the whole world would preach tolerance of others who are tolerant in return. Like there's no tolerating nazi's or bigots or whatnot because they are not tolerant, but peaceful people that are just different from others, should be tolerated. I have no problem with gays and lesbians as long as they cool.
