We have a thread for overrated now here's one for the underrated Kool G. Rap - one of the greatest lyricist to ever touch a mic.....G Rap's unbelievable breath control and word connection is just flat out AMAZING!!! Cormega - My man Mega hardly ever gets any love from the mainstream or real hip hop heads....dude consistently drops hot **** Andre 3000 - I know he's popular, but I don't think most people (hip hop heads included) take Andre Ben as the ferocious lyricist that he has and can be. Cee Lo Green - see andre 3000 Some others: Redman Pharoahe Monch Black Thought Chino XL Ice T Gift of Gab Ras Kass
Eazy-E. Not necessarily his skills (though if you want to hear some of his craziest lyrics, download Creep and Crawl. The song is straight fire), but his impact he had on starting the rap game.
^^agreed. His death also opended the hip hop world to the AIDS epidemic. I was listening to Real Mutha****** G's and Creep and Crawl last night and I remembered how great an MC he was.
Xzibit before Restless. His first albums and freestyling, without Dre producing, may not have sounded as crazy, but he showed some wicked lyrical skills.
X to the Z is definitely sick on the mic......I would also like to add Paris to the mix.......I love P.E., but Paris was just as "militant" as Chuck on the mic.
I think Talib Kweli is one of the most underrated mc’s in the game. Some people knock him because his voice is unappealing and he tries to fit too many words in his bars, but you can't deny the guy is one of the most talented lyricist's and has very conscious lyrics. I highly recommend his cd Reflection Eternal it's one of my favorites.

As far as I know, Eazy always had ghostwriters....and Cube wrote for Dre and Eazy when they were in NWA <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I think Talib Kweli is one of the most underrated mc’s in the game. So he tried to dumb down his lyrics and use party beats on the beautiful struggle which turned out horrible ("A Game") He had "Right About Now" drop late last year which turned out to be a pretty good album and is dropping "Eardrum" this summer on his own blacksmith records. Im expecting this new album to be more like his "Quality" album than his "The Beautiful Struggle" album. His single called "Listen" is pretty hot.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting TheBlackMamba:</div><div class="quote_post">Didn't Ice Cube write his lyrics?</div> When Cube was in NWA, yes. DOC also did some ghostwriting for him too, but on the efil4zaggin cd, Eazy was one of the main writers. Eazy wrote his own lyrics once NWA broke up.
Jeru The Damaja, Cormega, Pharoahe Monch, O.C, Lord Finesse, D-Flow, One.Be.Lo, Sean Price, Ras Kass, Mos Def, Common, Party Arty, Killah Preist, Kool G. Rap, Q-Tip, Inspectah Deck, Vinnie Paz... Just to name a few.
