What do yall appreciate most about Adrian Dantley's career? How do yall feel about his name and likeness being largely ommitted from contemporary basketball? ..especially considering how great he truly was
He never made All-NBA first team. Made the second team twice. He had a good case for making First Team in 1984, but Bernard King edged him out. He had better numbers, and his team went from 30 wins the previous year to 45 wins that year (King's Knicks went from 44 to 47 wins). Of course, Bernard King played in New York, so I guess he got more publicity. Unfortunately for him, during his best years his teams were never great, and he was overshadowed by the likes of Dr. J, Larry Bird, and King. Probably didn't help that as soon as he left Utah, they became a perennial 50 win team. He put up some great numbers, though.
Unprecidented numbers not duplicated even till this day. -- yet he's never mentioned, never outlined to fans as to the affect of 'this is the standard of scoring'. The man's set too great of an example to be forgotten dont u agree?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting TheFreshPrince:</div><div class="quote_post">^^what kind of numbers did he get</div> Not sure which "unprecedented numbers" AIRTIGHT is referring to. But in his prime, statistically (80-84), he had a 24.35 PER. Airtight, I've got a question for you... If I were to create a topic on how Marina sauce is better than Alfredo sauce, would you be able to find away to shine some negative light on Kobe in it?
When Kobe stayed in Italy, his mom and father learned how to cook some traditional Italian cuisine. They taught Kobe how to cook Alfredo sauce; but as you guessed, it wasn't nearly as complimentary as the BBQ sauce at Michael Jordan's Chicago based restaurant and I didnt rip on Jordan because Dantley wasnt a better scorer than Jordan. That wasn't a "rip" Fresh , It was just a comparison. PS- I thought you we're supporting Jordan in the earlier threads?
It's a joke Adrian Dantley isn't in the NBA HOF yet. He was a natural scorer and managed to get his points despite playing alongside other talented players.

And i support either one, i am not really sure who will be better.
Maybe we need to open the Kobe vs <font color=""Red"">Jordan</font> thread again-- I still got plenty of points on that subject. But yea thats one of the reason I dont like the comparisons with everybody against <font color=""Red"">Jordan</font>. - Well first reason is they dont compare. 2nd would be the damage that comparison does to players like Nique' King Dantley Drexler KJ Aguirre as these player's accomplishments and career's seem to be lost in history. If you just started watching the league today you may be lead to think Jordan was the only guard who ever played before the contemporary NBA. That <font color=""Red"">Jordan</font>'s unparalleled accomplishments he took years of effort to produce are condescended in order to compare him with every single talented player who had come in the league the day after he retired is I feel the largest form of disrespect. That before <font color=""Red"">Jordan</font> noone concieved a player could accomplish the level of success he had on and off the court--- yet after he retired every new star is sought and encouraged to be the "next". Its not fair or beneficial to the fans, the other players today, the players of the past or the future or the NBA as an organization, and to Michael <font color=""Red"">Jordan</font> as a man and as a sports Icon.
If you don't like the comparison, why start a "player" v. Jordan topic? I don't think sports fans can help but to compare players. Jordan is the standard because he's accomplished so much in his career on and off the court. When you are the pinnacle of a sport, people are going to constantly compare and contrast current, past, and future players with you. It's not a discredit to Jordan or Nique, Dantley etc. it's the ultimate form of respect. The league is fortunate enough people respect Jordan enough to want to emmulate his success, drive, and overall persona.
I put Kobe's name and stats in there because many of you've guys have stated Kobe as what you belive to be the best player and scorer in the leauge today..as well as a few who've said he'll be the greatest/best player of all time someday- if he's not already there or on that path in a few years.
Dantley was not flashy, and just got the job done. When you saw him play, you'd wonder after the game how he got those 30 points, 'cuz you could swear he had no more than a dozen. So many of his points came from the foul line that you wouldn't notice the scoring build up. Playing for Utah isn't going to get you much publicity, and not winning a championship doesn't help either. He also had the misfortune of playing when high-flying dunks began to be appreciated more than 10-foot bank shots.
a crazy note on those stats is he scored that high a mark as a 6-5 sf having only attempted a total of 7 3's during those 7 years
That is unreal, only 7 3's from a shooting guard in 7 YEARS! Was he that bad at threes? And AIRTIGHT, your numbers do not match Durvasa's at all. Durvasa says 24.35 ppg, but your lowest is 26.6. What gives? I prolly shot more than seven half court buzzer beaters in like 15 games last year. lol
Adrian Dantley was probably one of the more aggressive inside-scoring guards in NBA history. It continues to amaze me, why this guy has not yet been voted in the Hall Of Fame. He is by far, one of the best offensive threats of all time.
