Below are quotes from the show — taped on Monday, June 5.

Best Damn quotes with Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bryant (on being criticized by Phil Jackson and then having Jackson come back to coach the Lakers): "It bothered me. It angered me. But when we talked about him coming back as a coach, I didn't need an explanation ... He believed we could win a championship together; that's all I needed to know."
Bryant (on his 81-point game): "The career high I had was when I was six years old. I used to play against a bunch of 13 and 14-year olds. I scored 63 in a game. That was my career high until I got 81."

Bryant (asked if anyone is going to score 100 again): "I don't think so. Eighty-one was just one of those things. I don't know — the stars must have lined up. I didn't have a feeling like that ever in my life. The basket was huge and I could just run for days. I knew what the defense was going to do before they did it. It was just one of those things. I just can't see anyone doing it."

Bryant (on the toughest thing about coming to the NBA right out of high school): "Having any type of relationship with my teammates. I was 18. I just couldn't relate to my teammates. Most of them had kids, families, were mature adults. I was an 18-year-old basketball player and the only thing we had in common was basketball."

Bryant (on if he ever wishes he played college basketball): "Every March. Just to see the intensity and the energy in these games, the pressure and the high stakes — yeah, I miss it every March ... Part of me wishes I had gone for at least a year."

Bryant (on how close he came to signing with the Clippers): "Extremely close. I knew (Clippers owner Donald Sterling) wasn't playing around. I knew that he was serious about turning his team around ... It was something I was seriously considering."

Bryant (on his toughest opponents): "Reggie Miller was the toughest one to guard. And defensively, Bruce Bowen was the toughest for me to go up against."

John Salley (about Bryant's 81-point game): "81 points in a game? 81? Now I knew you were selfish, but damn Kobe, 81." </div>

Airs weeknights at 9, 10:30 and 11:30 p.m. local on FSN.
