Quote:

But Cavaliers GM Danny Ferry said yesterday at the Orlando pre-draft camp that he has no intention of trading center Zydrunas Ilgauskas. A published report recently suggested that the Cavaliers might consider moving the 7-foot-3, 260-pound center, who turned 31 years old Monday.

''I believe he'll be a part of many wins ahead,'' Ferry said at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. ''He's a big part of what we do.''

One prominent agent said trading Ilgauskas doesn't make sense.

''It would be almost impossible to replace him,'' he said.

Finding centers who have his skill set can't be found in the 2006 draft or in free agency. Ilgauskas was solid during the regular season, as he averaged 15.6 points and 7.6 rebounds. However, he seemed to wear down in the playoffs, as he plummeted to 10.4 points and 6.3 rebounds.

Ilgauskas has four years and roughly $41 million left on his contract. He has an opt-out clause after his third year.

No changes

Ferry said even though they are still ''evaluating'' the situation, he doesn't think there will be any changes to the coaching staff. It was thought that coach Mike Brown, who left Orlando yesterday, might add an offensive coach to his staff.

Ferry said he thinks the current coaches, most notably Hank Egan and Kenny Natt, have the ability to get the job done on the offensive end.

Well this is good news along with bad. Big Z is getting old, which isn't that hard to understand. But, he as he was solid in the playoffs he was just as bad in the postseason. I would at least look at the trades undercover to make sure Z doesn't know about them.

Big Z is a legit 7 Footer, but I cant see us getting more than 2 more good years.
We should trade him while he's still marketable and develop Varejao, I really like this guy, although we wouldnt have a go-to post man we'd have a defensive presence and a banger.

I don't really think Ilgalskus is non replaceable, Ferry makes him sound like he is the best center in the league.

Ilgalskus is getting up there in age, and I see him starting to fall off each and every year he has left. Sorry Big Z

I like that idea. And this is like a perfect situation for Ferry. Try and score a good player with Z then maybe shift Varejao to the center, he`ll only get better and better.

Hi guys,

I have no idea if the Warriors are interested in Ilgauskas, but I am. I wanted to know both what you thought Ilgauskas would resign for and what a reasonable trade with the Warriors would be in your eyes.

I know Murphy, Fisher (who I heard the Cavs were interested in), Dunleavy, and Pietrus are all on the trading block for the Warriors, and they have four good young big men (Diogu, Biedrins, Taft, and O'Bryant), one of which I could see them willing to trade.

I'm guessing that Ilgauskas would agree to a contract in the 4-5 year $40-46 mil range. So assuming that his first year would be about $8 mil, what do you think of this deal:

Cavs
Ilgauskas $8 mil
Jones $3.8 mil

for

Warriors
Fisher $5.8 mil
Murphy $8.2 mil
Either Pietrus or one of the young bigs $2-2.5 mil

The contracts don't quite match up, since the Cavs will be taking on an additional $4 mil or so in contracts, but the Cavs shoudl be under the cap enough that the deal should work.

What do you guys think?

Warriors wouldnt trade for him, not after drafting O'Bryant and Perovic.

Not to mention as the topic says, the Cavs arnt looking to trade him.

The article is from three weeks ago, while it's unlikely, it's always possible that things change. As we saw with Peja Stojakovic signing with New Orleans, things don't always go as expected.

As for drafting O'Bryant and Perovic, both are at least two years from contributing, and its possible that one or both of them would go to the Cavs in the trade.

My reason for interest in Ilgauskas is that Mullin was recently quoted as saying Andris Biedrins, the Warriors pick from 2004 and supposed heir to the center position, would be playing more power forward this year, inferring that either Murphy (most likely) or Diogu would be traded to make room for an incoming center.
