<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">ORLANDO, Fla. ? Considering the Milwaukee Bucks don?t have a first-round selection in the upcoming NBA draft, their chances of picking Rodney Carney are virtually nil. After all, Carney, a gifted 6-foot-6 swingman from Memphis, is considered a sure-fire top 14 selection. But Saturday, during a media session at Disney?s Yacht and Beach Club Resort, I asked Carney if the Bucks had made any direct or indirect contact with him. The scuttlebutt is the Bucks could obtain a mid first-round pick for guard Mo Williams and that they?d use the pick possibly on Carney. ?Yeah, I heard that,?? Carney said. ?I?m not sure who told me that, but I remember someone telling me that.?? Carney is the athletic type of swingman the Bucks figure to be in the market for this summer, someone who could be a quality backup for shooting guard Michael Redd and small forward Bobby Simmons. But if the Bucks are indeed serious about securing Carney, they aren?t broadcasting it to the world. Carney said he hasn?t worked out for the Bucks and, to the best of his knowledge, didn?t have one scheduled with them. Carney, who has exceptional leaping ability ? he had a vertical leap of 40 inches during a pre-draft test - has already worked out for New Orleans/Oklahoma City, Golden State, Houston, Charlotte, Orlando and Phoenix. He will make another visit to Houston and has scheduled visits with Minnesota, Chicago, Portland and Seattle as well.</div> Source
Honestly, I just don't see the point in trading for a backup swingman. Rodney Carney is suppose to be a lottery pick and lottery picks are suppose to come in and make in impact in the starting lineup at some point in their career. With Simmons and Redd both with long term contracts it would be silly to pick Carney to use as a backup. I'd also like to see the team that would take Mo Williams for a lottery pick.
