Rockets picked up the option on Chuck Hayes. http://clutchfans.com/news/1322/rockets_sign_chuck_hayes/ Roster as of right now is as follows(this excludes all free agents) pg: Alston/ Sura sg: Head SF: Tmac/ RyBo(player option) pF: stromile/ juwan/ chuck hayes c: yao/ deke We have our MLE and two draft picks that can bring in from anywhere from 3-4 players. Look for the Rockets to address the Forward position and aqcuire a player that can shoot the long three. Also adress the PG position(Vspan hopefully) and of course the SG position with a versatile athletic gaurd.
Good move. I hope gets a fair shot at moving up in the rotation. I would personaly like to see what he can do in the starting lineup.
^^^^me to......to be honest in the NBA today it's more important to have size at the SG/SF than it is at the PF/C positions.......Hayes might not be the tallest player, but neither was Barkley the important thing is he knows how to get rebounds and he's always hustling......I figure why not start him since he's such a big energy guy (which is exactly what the rockets need), and bring Howard off the bench (a guy who can provide some offense and veteran leadership).
This gaurantees that we will not be drafting Shelden Williams and if we do than we are trading either Juwan or Stro.
Definitely good news. Not really unexpected, but nice to get done either way. Hayes provided us with some good hustle and energy off the bench. Next season, he should at least have Swift's minutes, if not Howard's.
Looks like very good new for Rockets. He's a guy that will work hard for evry minute he'll get. So now Rockets know that Shelden Williams won't be available at the #8th spot. So look for Rockets to draft an athletic sg or a sf.
He has proven himself this season in streaks. He probably still isn't as good as reggie evans yet but he wil hopefully get like 10 minutes we can put him in against the slow pfs who have trouble rebounding. On the other hand we have not seen Swift or Howard yet. Howard on downhill so not much to see. Swif on the otherhand is in a do or die situation now his body is aproaching its prime condition and if he doesn't improve now he will never be what we thought he would be.

But the fact he's undersized, and can't knock down a jump shot permits him from bein a starter on the Rockets. Let's keep him comin off the bench

And while he doesn't knock down the jump shot, he does so many other things. You have to look at the total contribution of the player.

If we choose to start Hayes next year, we mine as well bring in Vince Young to back up Tmac.

That's precisely what you want from a role player. And when the alternative is Juwan Howard or Stromile Swift, both mediocre at best, why not give him a shot? And if never played more than 15 minutes per game, how do you know he's not capable of playing effectively with more minutes? His effectiveness did not decrease with more minutes last season. Actually, it tended to increase.

Starting Hayes would be like bring back Charlie Ward, USELESS. He might be able to play some solid mins off the bench, but Chuck Hayes not a starter. TRUST ME. Being undersized without a jumpshot is enuff proof

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Rock4life:</div><div class="quote_post">Thank you for being realistic</div> I should have said He will never be a starter...barring any injuries and with the Rocket's history it could happen.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting TmacGarnett:</div><div class="quote_post">He isn't a starter. Which is why you need to have a good defensive PF playing the majority of the minutes. And Chuck Hayes proved he's far and away our best defensive PF. Duh. I notice that you generally don't actually respond to my arguments, so I assume you'll again ignore the above point. Oh well.

I'm a big Hayes supporter don't get me wrong and Hayes BBall IQ is much higher than rodman's but Rodman was much more dominant. I actually think Hayes is one of those players that would do better coming off the bench with 20 minutes a game as compared to starter minutes with 20 a game.

I'm just tired of the line, "Hayes will never be more than a bench player." The guy played his tail off last season and he was very effective. His stats were terrific for a rookie brought in the middle of the season. And it wasn't just the individual numbers. Go to 82games -- the team played significantly better (on offense and, in particular, on defense) with him on the court. He deserves serious consideration for a starting role over bums like Howard and Swift.
