The word is that Wolves free agent point guard Marcus Banks is headed for the Los Angeles Lakers. Two years ago, the Boston Celtics and the Lakers made a trade that had Banks going to the Lakers and Gary Payton moving to the Celtics. But Payton failed a physical and the deal was called off. The Lakers have been trying to land Banks ever since, and that is where he is likely to be when the 2006-2007 season starts. Got it from insidehoops.com today the 16th http://www.startribune.com/507/story/496470.html
i checked his stats and he didn't seem like the assist type of PG and avgs 10 ppg so what type of pg is he a scoring or passing type?
He's a defensive speed type guard. I really hope this goes down, because Marcus Banks is the player this team lacks. Having him on the roster will also push Sasha and Smush to step up their games.
Sign him! Please let this happen. I think Smush is the perfect 6th man for our team. Acquiring Banks will give Smush that chance to shine off the bench.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting LO7:</div><div class="quote_post">I don't understand. Isn't Banks a free agent? If so, what's all this talk about trades?</div> He's a restricted FA and the Wolves aren't just going to let him walk for the MLE. They'll match any reasonable offer unless someone offers a sign and trade that they can't resist.

I think the trade talk they are referring to is a sign and trade. Marcus Banks can make more money if he re-signs with Minny, because they can offer him a 6 year deal vs. a 5 year deal from any other team.

Jason Terry? Where did you hear this from? do you think Mark Cuban is really going to give up his most consistent player in this years playoffs to the Lakers? hmmmmm
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting philip2136:</div><div class="quote_post">we might be able to get jason terry so calm down</div> Jason Terry was the reason why the Mavs didn't get swept. He was their heart and soul, because he had a bad half, the Mavs want to get rid of him? Mark Cuban is going to do everything in his power to re-sign him and I have a feeling that Terry wants to be there, as well. Also, Terry won't settle for the MLE, which is all we've got.
i dont know why the lakers aren't updating their site. other sites are posting up news about whos working out for them and all that
For as long as I can remember, Lakers.com has been one of the worst sites for updates period. They even need a graphic update. All the other team sites look far better. Dunno who is running the show there.
Lakers.com updates their site in the offseason when (a)they draft someone, ( they sign someone, and © when pre-season starts.
Damn, could this thread title be any longer? Anyway, Banks has been rumored to be going to the Lakers ever since that trade was amended and he was sent back to Boston. I like Banks I personally think he is a good young guard that could shine in the future if given the opportunity, but I honestly don?t see him as a big step up from Smush Parker. If he signs with the Lakers this off season and is inserted into the starting lineup immediately he will struggle, because he does not know the triangle. I could see this hurting the Lakers getting out of the gate. I think if they sign Banks they will have Parker starting the season, and if Banks overtakes him during the course of the season so be it, but barring injury I don?t think Banks starts right away next year if signed. If he does, and performs well, I will be very surprised.
i think starting smush would be a pretty good idea in the situation of what the lakers are in right now
Of course you start Smush. He has a year with the Triangle. If banks does come to LA in some sort of deal, he would push Smush to work harder. I like that idea. Last season, Smush didnt have anyone to compete with which made it easier for him to slack off.
