How does JBB feel about Andrew Bynum? The kid is a physical monster, a rare specimen now a days, but do you think he's being overhyped? What do you think about his future and his statistics in his prime? What kind of player do you see him turning out to be?

I think Andrew Bynum is going to be an all-star caliber player one day. I don't know though if he'll be good enough to single-handedly lead us to the NBA finals. I honestly think he'll be a player like Jermaine O'neal and have the same impact that O'neal does on Indiana, when he's healthy. In his prime, I think we can expect 23 ppg, 11 rppg, and 2 bpg. The Lakers need to realize what Indiana did, how they failed putting the right parts to compliment O'neal, and avoid that. If given another player who can contribute 16-20 PPG, a player who can give you 11-14 a game, and a player who can give you 8-12 a game, Bynum could be the leader of an eventual dynasty.

He's 18. I am more interested in seeing how Turiaf can develop with Kobe as his mentor.

I like Turiaf..but did you read what I posted? It's about Bynum in his prime.

Anyways, Kobe is the wrong guy to mentor him in the post. I'd rather have Kareem working with both Bynum and Turiaf. What does Kobe now about playing in the post? Sure his post game is great, but he's still a 6'6 guard. Turiaf doesn't have much offensive upside, if you ask me. His upside lies within defense, and that intrigues me. We need a defensive post presence who will block shots, and Turiaf could give us that. But in the long run, I don't think we'll ever rely on Turiaf for offense.

Not mentor him in his post game and all that crap. Thats KAJ's job. I was talking about him working out with Kobe. Kobe said he was gonna take him under his wings. So I'm just intrigued to see how that turns out.

In that aspect, I think Turiaf is going to mold into a bigger Kobe with his attitude. He already has one hell of a work ethic, Kobe'll only improve it. I think the working out with Kobe will really help Turiaf defensively.

Also, Bynum is working out with Garnett is what I've been told. Can anybody confirm this?

I just hope he lives up to the hype. Players can have all the talent in the world and still not live up to it.

I hear good things about the kid, but never seen him play.

I'd put my money on Bynum, since the threads about him. It could be about Ronnie though, but I'll let Trench answer for sure.

I think Bynum can develop into something great, if Kareem continues to tutor him. It would also be great if were to workout in the summer with players like Garnett, because everyone has different tips, tricks and techniques to teach. If it is true that Bynum is working out with Garnett, it's great, because I think that they have very similar bodies (exept for Bynum being a little bit heavier and taller), and that should help Bynum adapt easier.

Mamba is correct. I was referring to Bynum. This thread is called Thought on Bynum right?[IMG]

What I like about Bynum already is his work ethic and willingness to learn. When he came into the team he couldn't bench press 150lbs. Now he's doing reps at 250+

Anyone who weight trains has to appreciate this type of improvement in just the course of a year.

The key for Bynum is going to be learning how to use his size to his advantage. Players are a lot better at rotating over and drawing charges now, so it's going to be vital for Bynum to develop his footwork and be very explosive with his moves. Last year he was settling a little too much with fading away from the basket and trying to hit baby hooks in the lane. He needs to grab the ball and just mash it right through the rim ala Shaq.

I really looking forward to seeing him in the summer league this year.

Shape, what do you expect out of Bynum in his prime, if he develops right?

I don't think Bynum is overhyped, Laker fans love him to death though and that's about it. Phil Jackson is going to have to give this guy a chance if he is to make it "big" in the NBA. Bynum had some good plays for the limited minutes he played, and by the looks of some of these posts he's making a improvement already. If he continues to get stronger and improves his game, I can see him as a bit of Ewing or Zo.

I'd be lying if I could give you an answer. It way too early to draw comparisons with Bynum because he didn't get any opportunities in his rookie year.

The time to judge him will be this summer, then preseason, and then month by month evaluations.

He's grown 2 inches since the team drafted him, and they project him to possibly grow another inch this year. He's got a year of Triangle under his belt and is a lot stronger and heavier than he was a year ago.

I'm just can't wait to see what he's capable of doing now.

When I saw him live in the SPL games last year, the player I felt he resembled was Brendan Haywood. He didn't get a lot of opportunites on offense, but he made his presence known on the defensive side of the ball. He was very good at playing big and going after rebounds. His timing on shot blocks was a little off, but he altered a lot shots during the game. When he did get the ball, he drew a lot of attention and got fouled on almost every touch.

I'm hoping he delivers on what he said on draft night. I'm going to be as good as Shaq, but I'll make my free throws. [IMG]

I?m a big believer that the best way to develop your game is through playing time. I would have really liked to see Bynum get some more playing time this season. He played well in the time he got, but Phil still didn?t give him the light of day. I understand he is young, but his age should not determine his playing time. With that said the Lakers organization has done as much as any team could for one player to help him become all he can be. From bringing in Kareem to work with Bynum, to making sure Bynum improves his strength.

I think Bynum has a lot of potential if he continues to work hard. Remember Kermit Washington ? He did not receive much playing time his rookie season , but he had great work ethic, and hired a strength coach, and even some personal big men coaches to help him develop his game. He was well on his way to a great career, before the Rudy T incident sent his career into a downward spiral.
