Dirk's kick draws fineDirk Nowitzki was fined $5,000 for kicking the ball into the stands at the end of Game 5. A 63-year-old fan said he was hit by the errant basketball. BY BARRY JACKSON bjackson@MiamiHerald.com Late Monday, the Mavericks' star forward was fined $5,000 for his actions, Stu Jackson, NBA senior vice president for basketball operations announced. Michael Alan, a 63-year-old retired accountant, said he has been suffering headaches since Nowitzki's kick hit him in the right ear and right side of his face. ''I couldn't sleep because of the headaches,'' he said. ''It hurts to eat because my jaw hurts. If I continue to feel the way I feel now, then I will go to an attorney. I want somebody to say, `I'm sorry.'' ' Alan -- who said he suffers from heart disease and emphysema -- said he was rising from his seat when ``out of nowhere, a ball hit me. It's like a mule hit me. It knocked me down into my chair. I got a headache right away and my head was vibrating.'' His wife, Rosie, said, ``It was hilarious how ridiculously hard it was kicked. My husband has a lot of health conditions. He doesn't need this.'' Alan and his wife said they did not know Nowitzki had kicked the ball until they returned home from the game and turned on the television. 'I told my wife, `That's the ball that hit me!' '' he said. Earlier this season, Denver forward Carmelo Anthony was fined on two separate occasions for throwing a ball into the stands -- $5,000 the first time, $15,000 the second. Tim Frank, the NBA's vice president of communications, said he did not believe an NBA player ever had been suspended for kicking or throwing the ball into the stands. Minnesota forward Kevin Garnett was fined $5,000 in February after he threw a ball into the stands. The fan who was hit was taken out of the arena on a gurney but was not seriously injured.
LMAO....just when you think things couldn't get any worst....this NBA Finals has had some of the most bizarre twist that I've ever seen in any sport.
I'm sure the next time this happens a player will probably get suspended.....a flying ball in the air can be dangerous.......especially to a man with TWO diseases.
well i think this is the fourth incident but if someone kicked a ball and i saw it coming at me (this guy didnt) I would catch it and say this is the 5000 dollar ball that ______ kicked.
^^ Yep or you can stay still and let the ball hit you. Call some lawyer and have some money in your pocket. It's a dirty tort but some people do that.
Money is money, I bet you would do it to rich Dirk who has millions in his bank account. Half a million would be nice. I usually hate people who do this, but I feel for this 63 year old man who has 2 diseases.
Man this old wussy is just trying to make some money by suing Dirk. I bet you he made those lame excuses that he had headaches and couldn't sleep. I hate it when people do that. They just wanna sue players for no reason and say that they were hurt bad. Getting hit with a basketball that was kicked from down there? looks like it wouldn't hurt that bad.. guy just trying to get money!

And given his condition and how it's already prohibited by the, league(punishable by fine) he has his right to a lawsuit IMO. To insult this man is weak, and although I don't doubt he's exaggerating his condition for money, you can't know him when he has a legimate case.
The idiot shoulda caught the ball, we have all been hit in the head he needs to stop crying b4 I hit him on the head with a sledge hammer and then he can complain....jk

Give him a break.

If you got hit with a ball and it broke your nose or hit you in the family jewels you wouldnt think about sueing? This poor guy didnt ask for Dirk to throw a baby tantrum and kick the ball into the stands. He has two dieseases and probably has bone problems. If he got hit by the ball to us it may not hurt but to him it could be the same as getting hit with a sledgehammer
I wouldn't sue him. They knew he was angry and you could obviously move out the way. It is America for you, people want money. It was an accident so it shouldn't be something to sue someone about although he did have problems. Nowitzki shouldn't have done it but he was very angry so i would prefer him to do that that hit someone or injure someone. He got what he deserved, a fine.
