They would've been better taking their chances on Hoffa than this IMO. If they wanted a decent centre, they should've gone after Joel Pryzbilla in free agency.</div>
The thing is, by making this trade, we get a big, and still have the same amount of cap room to pursue Przybilla, if Colangelo so desired. Even if we do get a starting center in free agency, even better. We'd have a top 5 backup center.

In terms of the contract length, Nesterovic won't ever play like he deserves that $8 million, but in the NBA of today where Eric Dampier makes $11 mil a year, Nesterovic's salary is on par. I'd rather be saddled with the big contract of a serviceable big man than one of a completely useless Eric Williams.

I doubt Colangelo wants to burn money on another center who wants and will get more money than he deserves. Thats why we got Rasho, those other centers will be asking for more than Rasho is making, so it was a solid trade considering we also dump Eric Williams' contract, and trade the inconsitent Bonner.

By making this trade, we have money to pursue a quality FA or two, and it doesn't have to be a center, the options are open now.

I thought Magloire was rumored to go to the Raptors?

Rumours will be rumours, doesnt mean it will happen. Magloire would cost us more, Rasho has been on some succesfull teams with superstar power forwards. I think hes a safe bet as a starter.

i dont know how people can complain about his contract. most of you guys wanted to go out and sign nene or pryzbilla...what did you expect? 2 yrs at 3mill a season? they'd both be getting paid about 9 mill, and wouldnt sign for less then 5yrs...plus we'd still have both bonner's and e-will's contracts on the books...so our cap situation would have been screwed. to top it all off, we've gotten cash considerations, so we're not paying his whole salary!

we're paying about 1-1.5 million more for the next two seasons...probably less with the $$ considerations, and we get rid of some dead weight, and address our gaping hole at center...i just dont see how there is anything to complain about here

Przybilla would make the same as Rasho, but he's 3 years younger and a superior shot blocker and rebounder.

Nene would make about $1-2 million more per year, when you think of it like that, it's definately not a big deal, since you hardly ever get an impact player for that amount of many anyways. He's also a far superior player on both ends of the floor, would solidify our frontcourt, and is still developing. In addition to that, he 6 years younger, which kinda covers the whole longer deal part, and it would only be like 2 more years on his contract anwways.

Williams and Bonner, they expire and make minimal amounts of money that they are quite easy to get rid of if we really wanted to clear some space. Also I don't think the actual payment of the players salary has ever been the problem for teams, normally the problem is the effect the salary has on the cap, which cash considerations do not remove.

But I wasn't complaining so your post wasn't to me, but I'm just putting out that fact that there is some rational in wanting those guys.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">On the other hand, if the point of getting Nesterovic was to acquire a contract that gives them a little more trade flexibility, then the possiblies open up for Portland. For example, Nesterovic's '06-07 salary of $7.28 million is tantalizingly close to the $7.75 million the Blazers will owe Darius Miles next season. The timing of Wednesday's trade -- one week before the draft -- could lead to the conclusion that it is just a first step.</div>

This is what I feel is going to take place with Rasho as well. I think he's going to be packaged in a deal involving the pick. Maybe they end up swapping him for Pryzbilla.

The rumor from Insider today had the Blazers offering this package for the #1 pick.

The most popular has the Portland Trail Blazers packaging No. 4 and No. 30 along with Travis Outlaw or one of their young point guards to get up to No. 1.

If the Blazers also include Pryzbilla and take back Rasho it might be enough to get Colangelo to agree. Portland would then take Adam Morrison #1 and Toronto would take which ever player slips to them at #4.

Is it just me or is Colangelo a genious? He knows what he is doing and he will have this team in the playoffs in the next couple of seasons.

I just noticed that the pistons signed Nazr Mohammed for about 5.2 mil a year. I would have much rather had him the then Rasho for 8 Million.

ahhh but the kicker is...for how many years? I'd rather get rid of both those guys sooner (ie: Rasho) than have them for longer (ie: Mohammed)

yeh but you think they could have given something like 6 mil a year or even 6.5 mil, i mean money talks, the blue jays proved that one. But yeh also i think Colangelo has expressed some hesitation about FreeAgent market because he is unsure what he is going to get interms of effort from a player. or whether last season success fomr a player was just due to the fact they were in a contract year. Anyway im just saying straight up Nazr is a better player then RAsho IMO.
