<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Larry Brown won't be receiving an invitation to James Dolan's annual July 4th bash on Long Island. But there are signs that Brown may finally get word, possibly as early as Monday, that he is no longer the Knicks head coach.

The Knicks refused to comment on whether Dolan, the Garden chairman, has targeted next week as the time to part ways with Brown. It has been widely speculated that the Knicks want to sever ties with Brown before Wednesday's NBA Draft. The Knicks own the 20th and 29th selections, and assuming Isiah Thomas holds onto those picks, the two players would join the Knicks' summer-league team that begins training in Las Vegas on July 2.

Channing Frye, Nate Robinson and David Lee are all expected to play for the Knicks' entry in the Vegas Summer League, and it is highly unlikely - not to mention counterproductive - to have a lame duck coach running the practices. Dolan and Thomas felt that Brown had a negative influence on many players last season, chief among them Frye and Robinson. Assistant coach Herb Williams is expected to coach the summer-league team.

The Knicks' front office didn't mind having Brown attend the pre-draft camp in Orlando or running workouts for prospects. But it wants to prevent Brown from having contact with players who will be on the opening night roster next season.

If Brown is somehow still employed by the Knicks after July 13, the divorce proceedings could drag into September.</div>

If we're going to fire him, we might as well do it now instead of letting this drag on later. I would still give him another year just to see if he could improve the team, but the way he coached the team last year I can understand where Dolan and Isiah are coming from.
