<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Larry Brown has been relieved of his responsibilities as head coach of the New York Knicks it was announced today. Isiah Thomas, who serves as the team's president and general manager, will also assume the role of head coach, effective immediately.

"Larry has had a long and storied career. We hired him last summer with the expectation that he would be with the Knicks for a long time. Sometimes decisions work and sometimes they don't. After careful consideration, despite the best intentions from everyone involved, this current structure did not work for us last season and I did not think it was going to improve next season," MSG Chairman James L. Dolan said. "I have great personal admiration for Larry, but have concluded that it is best for our franchise if we make this change. We understand that fans were not happy with the performance of the team last season and neither were we. We are committed to making major improvements next season towards our goal of producing a winning basketball team."

"No one in our organization is happy with last season and we all accept responsibility for our performance," Thomas said. "This has been a difficult time for the entire organization and our fans. Today begins the 2006-07 season for the Knicks, and I strongly believe we are on the right track to take major steps in our rebuilding process to achieve our goal of being one of the premier teams in the NBA. Larry Brown is a great coach, but for various reasons, bringing him to the Knicks did not turn out the way we had hoped and we wish him the best in the future."

Thomas, who joined the Knicks as president and general manager on Dec. 22, 2003, previously served as a head coach with the Indiana Pacers for three seasons from 2000-01 through 2002-03. Coaching a youthful Pacers team, he compiled a record of 131-115 record, making the playoffs in each of his three seasons.</div>

I think it's an awful move. Larry Brown was not the problem, but it will be very entertaining to see Thomas attempt to turn the team around.

I don't believe that Larry Brown was the problem...
I'm doubting the move to relieve him at the moment =/

Brown wasnt the problem, this team is filled with ballhogs who all want to be the star instead of playing as a team

Brown was never the right coach for this type of team, I think they will be better off without him.

Well it's true Brown didn't put 100% in the team last yr, but I think it's mostly Isiah's fault. Isiah should have been fired as soon as he traded for Steve Francis. Everybody knew it was a terrible trade, but for some odd reason he still pulled the trigger. Given a better mix of players, Brown could have worked it out. But aslong as Isiah's running the show, the Knicks will always be terrible.

I think the Knicks have a good mixture of talent, for some reason I don't know, Brown wasn't able to make it all work.

Obviously firing Larry Brown was a stupid move by the Knicks. On the other hand seeing Isiah Thomas embarass himself trying to get this heartless team full of losers and bums to make the playoffs will be fun to watch. Isiah Thomas will finally get to coach the players he brought in like I was hoping before he hired Brown. We'll finally see what Isiah's vision was. I have a feeling that after another disaster of a season Isiah Thomas will be fired.

Anyway I think Isiah Thomas should be fired.

Hey MrJ we thought the Jim Dolan protest was rock bottom, but once again the Knicks find another way to get worse. Isiah Thomas coaching this team should be really interesting.

Wow, this team will never get any consistency if they just keep making random moves.

    Is Isiah still the GM???

Cuz if he isn't then it isn't that bad, Keep his as coach where he has several advisors in assistant coaches and get him the hell out of the GM office, but if he is still GM, the Dolan made a stupid stupid move.

I was epecting this, but when Marbury was saying what seemed like nothing but good things about LB I thought he was staying.

Didnt Dolan say he wasn't giving up on the team and that he wanted everyone to return next year? Hmmm....
