I was reading up on the Hakeem thread and something popped into my head about that finals series. Houston vs. Orlando. I was rooting for Orlando to take it that season and I was a big fan of their starting five. Anyone remember Nick Anderson and his infamous free throw misses? I think that those series of misses really screwed with his ability to shoot foul shots. He blamed that entire loss on himself. He was never the same again. At one point, I think he was shooting under 50%. Prior to that Finals loss, he was a fairly good FT shooter. My question is, what other STAR players do you think have been affected cognitively by their poor play?
Michael Olowakandi. He had the talent to be picked number 1, and shows very brief signs of it, but his head is never there.
Okay. My vote goes to Stromile Swift. Wait he is not a star though. I will have to say Starbury on this one.
my bad, you said star, well i would have to say marbury after he left minny and realized that kg was the perfect player for him. his own fault though. why didnt he stay
If you're talking about a star, I don't know why Nick Anderson is the first person mentioned. But nonetheless, out of the players that I believe have been really affected would be Darko, and Odom as well. I realize Darko is not a star and Odom's not either in a sense, but both of them had the potential to be somehting greater and were hindered of thier potentials either by themselves (in the case of Odom) or a lack of confidence when thrust with expectations (in the case of Darko).
Actually, Anderson's numbers in 1996 wasn't that much worse compared to 1995. When he really started going downhill was 1997. So I'm not sure how big a factor those 4 free throws really were in 1995 really were.
