Gibson showed a lot of potential in college. However, he left a lot of question marks about his game unanswered. If he would have gone back next season, and lead Texas to a solid season he would most likely have been a first round lock. With that said I think the Cavaliers are making a huge mistake. Dee Brown is far better than Daniel Gibson. Dee can also be a great floor leader who brings emotion to every game. Having him next to Lebron would be a great tandem for years to come.
Gibson had a very impressive freshman season and had people believing at the begginning of the year that he would be a top 10/5 pick this year if he left, factoring in his expected improvements. Well, his stock dropped tremendously as a result of his poor play in many games for the longhorns. He still a lot of talent, and if he's picked by a team with a veteran point guard (like the Nets with Jason Kidd), it should help groom him to be the teams sucessor at PG and be a more ready player to take over a signficant role. If the Cavs have indeed promised Daniel to take him at 25, I'd expect to play a similiar role to Monta Ellis of the Warriors this past year.
It would be a nice fit with Eric Snow and Damon Jones holding down the fort for a couple years. They can get him in the second round or even if they're lucky, in free agency. There's much better players to take at the spot.
I think there will be much better players available at 25 and I don't think Gibson is one of them. He's a very streaky shooter; but on the other hand, he is very inconsistent. He did a really nice job in his freshman year as the floor leader, but he took a major step back this past season and was eventually moved to 2-guard. He did a little better there and if he wants to be successful at the next level, he has to polish his point guard skills.
