<div class="quote_poster">Quoting 44Thrilla:</div><div class="quote_post">I really can't understand people who react so quick and carelessly in this kind of situation. You guys have McGrady and Yao, you're not far away from a championship contending level. Why complain about obtaining one of the most all around, solid players in the league for a player who has never even played an NBA game yet? Battier makes your team so much better, and I think perfectly compliments McGrady on the wing. I think the Rockets have become a top 5 team by making this deal.</div> I agree with everything you said. I wanted Gay (next to Head), but Shane will make our team so much better. His play will rub off on everyone else. We have 0 need for Ryan Bowen now. At least we get to keep Head. We have the 2nd round to get someone athletic or a shooter!
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting JuLiO-R-:</div><div class="quote_post">But Rudy Gay has sooo much potential. But what I don't understand is why didn't the Rockets atleast try and get another pick?</div> I agree ... I don't think it's a terrible move, though it's somewhat dissapointing. An extra pick would have numbed the sting a bit. Man ... I really wanted Ronnie Brewer.
Duuuuuuuuuude....Shane Battier averaged a 6 points in the playoffs. 50% shooting, true that but a not a good offensive player. He was supposed to be guarding Nowitzki, he couldn't do that, and it's not his fault. Well I gotta say we pulled the trigger on this waaaaaaaaaay too fast. Looks like our organization did it in a split second. WTF my man, slow down, calm yourself, think, think. And why the hell did we trade to another one of those dreaded southwest rivalry teams? Screw you Juwan Howard for winning the game against the Nuggets, it wasn't even on our home floor, what were you thinking? I sure do hope Rudy Gay turns out to be a total bust. And Shane drops 40 on the Griz for dropping him. Does this mean we don't have the mid-level exception anymore? From what I think, I think Shane's contract is bigger than Gay's. If this trade goes through, the Rockets will be doing the opposite of what they've said all along, getting younger and more athlethic. They just traded one of the most athlethic players for an older, less and mostly one-sided player. The Rockets really need offense, which is what they would be getting in Gay. Battier is a very solid player, but I don't think it is a very intelligent move. A player like Battier could be had through free agency for pretty cheap while a player with as much potential like Gay are rare and would be hard to get at a reasonable salary. I want Gay because I have concerns about T-Mac's back. Having someone like Gay would take some pressure off Mcgrady next season, and it would insure the Rockets future. With the success of UCONN players in the NBA, I have very high expectations for Gay. I think at worst, he will be as good a player as Battier. At best, he will be like T-Mac.
I don't know how much truth is in this, but the Houston Chronicle is reporting that Gay and Stromile were traded to get Battier. I might have to stop watching the Rockets if this is true. Looks like we'll get Memphis' pick, but I'm not very optimistic about what kind of player will be available at #24. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports...kn/4010820.html
I have to say, this makes the trade a bit sweeter for me. It would have been even better if we could have gotten rid of Juwan Howard instead, but our roster is instantly improved with Chuck Hayes moving up in the rotation. Along with Battier, if Chuck Hayes plays big minutes next year we will definitely be a better ballclub. Both those guys are simply winners. Maybe I'm just a hopeless optimist, but I'm starting to like this deal. Though, at the same time, giving up Swift AND Rudy Gay for Battier seems somewhat lopsided at first glance. Anyone knows Battier's contract situation?

Anyone knows Battier's contract situation?</div> I like it. The trade is pretty much done, its just that the Rockets don't want to use up the TE and prefer to get rid of Howard/Stro's contract Howard http://hoopshype.com/salaries/memphis.htm I like Battie's contract. I wish we could somehow include Luther Head and Mike Miller in this trade. I think the Rockets might want Mem pick of Kyle Lowry.
Is there still a chance of us getting Brandon Roy? He was #6 not #5. Sucks that we had to trade swift. I'd rather have swift than howard...

I like the idea of Hayes moving up in the rotation, but I think we are giving up too much to get a player like Battier and a low draft pick. GAy for Battier and #24 would not be as bad, but to add Stromile is just horrible. We could probably trade Stromile individually for a pretty solid player. Also, getting Battier will not be giving the Rockets any siginifcant salary cap room to make moves in free agency. Battier makes more than Stromile in the next three seasons, and he is signed through 2010-11. I would understand the deal a little more if it would have given the Rockets more flexiblility in signing free agents, but that is not the case. Hopefully, some other details of the trade have not been reported yet. http://www.hoopshype.com/salaries/memphis.htm I expressed my dissappoinment with CD a while back, and this move just reinforces my displeasure with him. Now I really can't wait for the Morey era to begin. Hopefully, Morey does not listen to whatever advice CD bestows upon him.

I want to keep Swift, we give up on him too easily. On Houston Chronicle 82% of people wanted to keep Gay. Only time will tell...sigh...big night... How do Marcus Williams and Jordan Farmar fall all the way to the twenties? How does Marcus Williams fall behind Rajon Rondo? Draft Party anyone?

I don't think that's true, because it is done through trade and we could just use up our TE and still have our MLE. Throw in Lowry and Miller and we will throw in Luther and our pick! hmmm pipe dreams I hope we get Hassan Adams in the 2nd round
Back for my first post in a long time. I hate that we gave up Rudy Gay. I'm in love with the fact that we unloaded Stromile Swift. Peja anyone?
Sorry guys I'm still crying over HOW MUCH BATTIER BLOWS...... WE GET THE GUY IM DREAMING ABOUT AND WE TRADE HIM FOR A GUY WHOS OLD. WOW!!!! I'm on borderline on being a non-rockets fan

All I'm looking at is Stromile's $5.4 mil and Battier's $5.393 mil salaries for next season. That is only a difference of less than $7,000. I don't know of any player that can be sign for that amount. We also saved some money by paying a #24 pick instead of a #8 pick, but I don't think it is that much. The amount we saved in salary cap space seems to be very minimal. I believe we get to keep our MLE. We better be getting something else in this trade or this could go down as one of the worst trades in history if Gay develops into the type of player he could be. Even if Gay becomes half the player I expect him to be, this is still a catastrophe.
This trade has Van Gundy's paws all over it. Conversation prolly went like this, Carol Dawson "We're gonna take Rudy Gay and get younger!". Van Gundy, "Well, um, I think somebody like Battie can help us in more areas". The truth is, Van Gundy doesn't have the patience to develop young players. As much as we NEED to get younger and more athletic, Van Gundy's system won't allow a young player to reach his max potential. With that said, I'm not totally mad at the trade. This trade is a SAFE trade. We don't lose anything and we get a very solid player. He can shoot, defend, and he's a very smart player. It'll put Tmac back down to SG where he'll have more of an advantage. We still gotta get more athletic, this trade didn't solve that problem. Still alot of work to do for the Rockets. From my knowledge Swift wasn't involved in the trade
