I still think MP's on-the ball defense against guards will not matter if Pietrus is too dumb to even know the foul count. If he learns how not to be an idiot, great, but he's nothing more than a backup two if he can't do things better than Jrich. He's pretty mediocre as a 3 and better served going to a team that just likes to run around and cut a lot and has a star small forward. Nuggets anyone? If MP undoes a stupid contract like Dunleavy, Fisher or Foyle, I'm all for it.

Well, they're not paying these guys to win spelling bees or discover new mathematical theorems. They're paid to put the ball in the basket, and prevent the other team from doing the same.

I don't judge players strictly by their intelligence. If I did, Adonal "Democracy Matters" Foyle would be MVP of the league. I judge them on their production in the game. And while it's obvious Pietrus makes mental errors on the floor, he still has produced at a comparative level to the "bball wizard" Dunleavy. Remember, you can usually teach the game, but you can rarely teach athleticism.

If Pietrus has a learning disorder, fine. I am disappointed in his development, clearly. But I don't think he's "dumb" or an "idiot." I mean, sh!t, he's not the only one to make bonehead plays, like Fisher calling ill-advised timeouts or Adonal throwing a full-court baseball pass into the 14th row of the stadium. Those guys are supposed to be "heady" players, right?

And while yes, I agree Pietrus makes occaisional "stupid fouls," that hardly tarnishes the usual stellar man-to-man defense he can play. I mean, if I wanted to quantify a defensive grade for each player, including every possible aspect I could think of beside stats, like how often you are caught in a screen, what percentage of scores come off you man setting a successful pick against one of your teammates, what types of fouls you make when, etc...

I'd still grade Pietrus and Monta the two best on the team, Monta maybe A-, Pietrus maybe B+ or B , maybe Biedrins B- ....but everyone else would be C or lower.

 

Nah, I think Pietrus is still overrated now. When I mean he's stupid, of course I mean basketball smarts wise. What did people think I meant? Foyle is very bright, but on the court he's another dumb, raw guy who can't shoot free throws or do the teamwork stuff. Fisher is... a bad decision-maker and that comes off as dumb. But not as dumb as the guys who've picked up a basketball like 3 years before they were drafted. But then again Fisher I just plain don't like, but he's helped playoff teams in a big way.

I just wish the strengths of Fisher and the strengths of Baron were combined as one.
Same with Richardson/Pietrus
Same with Dunleavy/Pietrus
Same with Murphy/Diogu

Everyone's going to have weaknesses, but ours is just plain bad when you throw everyone together like this. I mean what kind of team is this? It's hard to believe it's a team.

If there will be a choice between Foyle and Dunleavy, i definetely choose Dunleavy to trade because Dunleavy is weak, slim and slow. Last year, we won some games with Foyle's incredible effort. Maybe he's not a good offensive player but in defense he made so many things for Warriros.
