Good God, we didn't trade Kareem and MJ for Boki Nachbar.

Let's see what happens, and even still.. Mac + Ming > GAY. Of course someone is going to bring Gasol into the argument, but even still, Battier is a great player. Let him put on a Rocket Jersey before we make effegies of him.

If you spelled petition correctly in the title of the thread, maybe more people will sign it.

You fellas do know that he was ranked the best defensively by 82games.com right? He isn't garbage by ALL means. Gay is very raw and he lacks focus to play the game. Shane will step in for you anywhere, you tell him to play center well then he is there. Just goes to show you that the Rockets organization isn't looking for the future they are looking to win right now. I am sure the management will bring in some talented veterans to help try and lead this team. You watch.

Yes, looking to win right now.

That's fine and dandy, but what happens after RIGHT NOW? We win the Championship, fantastic, but isn't about winning over long periods of time? We've had to fathom that the Rockets were never a good team, "Clutch City" was a fluke because MJ didn't play. We have a GOOD chance to get a player that could help right now, 10 and 5 is what Battier gives us, why not Gay? Even still if he sucks, what better team TO SUCK? We have YAO and Tracy McGrady! We don't need a superstar. This may be the best reason for getting Battier, under any other circumstances it would be fine. But other GMs rated Gay as a number 2 talent. . GMs who can't afford to wait for a player to blossom.

I need to find out more about this trade, but I am planning to be a Rocket fan all my life. If Shane Battier is going to give me 15 years in the league, fantastic. But that would make him. . 42? Rudy Gay, 34. If T-Mac goes down again, what happens? Has Shane Battier ever taken a double team and scored on them consistently? For all we know, Gay won't be able to at all. But I'd rather him suck for the Rockets than become a superstar for a team we see 4 times a year. . excluding playoffs.

I've said time and time again, that I am on the fence for this trade. If one looks back to any time ANY of the Rockets Previwers have done a game against Memphis, we've praised Battier as a solid player.

We trade Rudy Gay, but good God .. could we not have traded him to the Eastern Conference? Another division, even. According to reports the Rockets had 5 players they wanted in mind. Rudy Gay wasn't one of them. This trade was thought out, IMO. Meaning, hey, we just told JERRY WEST who we wanted in the draft. It's like we sold our soul to the devil.

I'm going to let Battier play for us before I at all critique him. I feel bad for him, some idiot Rocket fans are going to boo him during games. But the way management played the trade, they showed their hand to a great Poker Player. Sure, Swift was a bust, but if West REALLY wanted Gay, why not push Juwan on them? Why not ask for more?

But. . we'll see what the new developments are. . and from the looks of it; a certain "other board" is really pissed off about this -- who knows what'll happen.

I agree with you 50 in the sense that there is urgency in the Rockets organization. but look at our lineup with Gay and without him

    With Gay:

    PG: alston/ sura
    sg: tmac/ head
    sf: Gay/ novak/ rybo
    pf: stromile/ howard/ chuck hayes
    c: yao ming/ deke

    Without gay and stromile
    pg: alston/ sura
    sg: Battier/ head
    sf: Tmac/ novak/ rybo
    PF: Howard/ Hayes
    c: Yao ming/ deke

Sura is under contract and not close to contributing. Luther Head and Chuck Hayes are the only depth players we have and they are in their second year. Free Agency needs to be very important now. With Gay and Stromile, our SF and PF situations are set. If Yao gets into foul trouble, we have Swift to play C, but not anymore. With Gay and Swift, our main concerns would be back up PG, back up center. We could get both by splitting our MLE.

Without Gay, we need a back up PG, back up C, a rotational PF to replace swift, and a swingman to play backup SF/SG. Novak is one dimensional so he can't replace TMAC at all. RUDY GAY CAN.

Our power forward situation would not have been set with Stromile Swift. Last year, it was anything but solid, and Stro was a big part of that. Actually, I think that by acquiring Battier, we might have gotten better at the PF position. Howard can still start, and moving Stro gives Hayes more time. Battier's ability to shift over at times gives the four a consistent defender and a four on offense who can spread the floor even better than Howard did.

Well I guess you can do that, but there is no way that you can tell me we added depth or didn't lose any depth at all. Novak won't get much playing time being a rookie making Head our 6th man.

Which he was exactly last season. How does this set us back? Our roster isn't any less complete than it was before. The only depth we lose is the question mark that is Rudy Gay. This doesn't change anything from last season depth-wise, but does improve our defense and scoring. Novak is a question mark as well.

I think the thing we have to do right now is not to get bench players, but rather starters so that we have better quality players on the bench who have started under Van Gundy before.

Maurice Evans was traded for the 54th pick. How couldn't we have used the 44 from Orlando to get him? Hustler, athletic, he'd fit all our needs according to Rock4life or you. Why isn't anyone crying about that?

I'm still trying to get over the fact that we gave cash for this guy from isreal who is staying overseas. Maurice Evans is someone who I would love to have.
