Here is an update on FA's that are reportedly close to signing with a team: Peja Stojakovic- Hornets (5 years, 60 million) Vald Radmonovic- Lakers (5 year deal starting at MLE) Tim Thomas- Clippers (4 years, 24 million) Sam Cassell- Will likely re-sign with Clippers I got all this info from this article: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2507013
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Umair15:</div><div class="quote_post">Wow.. I would love Jamal Tinsley here.. Trade Tinsley for Alston? Any source?</div> We're coming off a season decimated by injuries, and you want Tinsley as our new starting PG?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting durvasa:</div><div class="quote_post">We're coming off a season decimated by injuries, and you want Tinsley as our new starting PG?</div> well i thought that maybe sura would be back.. and i wanted sura to start because he was great 2 seasons back. and i thought that maybe tinsley would be good off bench. but i guess you are right. tinsley is injured too much and we dont want anymore injuries in Houston!
I think M.James is definitely a Rocket next year. If push comes to shove he will get the MLE. The trade exception could help with a sign and trade. Rocket need another big that can fill at center too There is definitly a spot at C and SG open for the guys in the summer league to break through. Cato would be great if he is healthy and in shape Ervin Johnson maybe.
I think rockets are getting closer to sigining james on the 12th. he wants to come here real bad, and i think whatever the rockets offer him(MLE), he'll take it because he wants here so bad.. this article talks about james and rockets getting closer http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/4018698.html
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting xCLAVEx:</div><div class="quote_post">Well, Peja is off the market. He is reported to sign with the Hornets later this week.</div> Personally, I think that we should be fine with Alston starting. Yes, his shooting was woefully inconsistent and he was out of control at times, but now he's had a year of experience and could do better with TMac and Yao on the court at the same time. What we need now is a backup. Tinsley would take quite a lot to land and his injury problems could be a problem. I would like to see a young speedster like Marcus Banks or Speedy Claxton on the team, but that would eat up the MLE too. Either way, anyone but James would be fine. I didn't enjoy watching him in Toronto this past season. Sucks to see that James is our top target...

Alston has shown a willingness to defer to the Big Two. Once he gets that three-point shot to a level of consistency that he is capable of, Alston would resemble the perfect point guard to run the team.

If we're gonna spend the MLE, I think it should be on a scoring SG. Right now, we still need some punch coming off the bench. If we can land somebody like Butler from the Hornets, it'll be a lil better. But our main priority should be firepower.
Rasual Butler would be a nice fit, but he isn't really a volume scorer. He can give you 10 or so points each night and is an accurate shooter from three, but lives in the corner and depends on creators for his points. That's why he'd be perfect with Alston, but no so much James, for whom passing was his last resort. If we can land a shooter like Butler, say bye to James.
Get Bonzi Wells.. How about trade Wells for Howard and Rybo.. and use MLE to get Mike James? Alston/ James/Sura Battier/Head McGrady/Wells Hayes/Novak/Battier Yao/ Deke
man everyone is going to the hornets.. darn hornets. they are going to be real good. they are getting stajokovic and now bobby jackson with a getting better david west and great guard chris paul.
How about we try to get Eddie House instead of Mike James. I really dont know much about House, but I know he can be a great scorer/shooter off the bench. He get a pretty good three and can be able to score good off the bench. What do you guys think? James or House?
mike james is a very solid pg, and he is a great scorer and shooter, maybe better than eddie house... eddie changed in one season 3 times his team...we don't need em...i want james or someone else, but nooo house Drew Gooden.... Cavs haven't made Drew Gooden an offer, yet. why?? "James' decision could also determine the future of Cavaliers forward Drew Gooden, a restricted free agent. "I can't say if LeBron's not going to re-sign that Drew isn't going to re-sign, but one of the main reasons why Drew wanted to go to Cleveland is because of LeBron," said Calvin Andrews, Gooden's agent. "Drew thinks the Cavaliers are a championship-caliber team. If LeBron's not in the mix, that will impact how Drew views the team." Cleveland Plain Dealer "Ferry also has made comments about his desire to keep Gooden, but the Cavs did not make Gooden an offer on Saturday. Because Gooden is a restricted free agent, the Cavs can match any offer made to Gooden." Cleveland Plain Dealer "While the Cavs wait, Andrews will seek a long-term deal for Gooden: six years in Cleveland or five years at another address. A long-term deal could mean $8 million to $10 million a year. If that scares the Cavs, Gooden could receive that money from Phoenix, Atlanta or Chicago - teams in need of a low-post scorer." Cleveland Plain Dealer. http://insidehoops.com/ i hope we can get him, because i think he is the answer for the PF position, with him we come closer to the championship
Now it's rumored that Wells is headed to Toronto on a 2-year contract. James would be a nice fit as a scoring option off the bench--- a guard who can handle the ball, score and be free to inject any amount of scoring he can. Would he work alongside Yao and TMac? No, but I do think he'd be invaluabe off the bench, playing 25-30 minutes and giving us 10-12 ppg and a high 3-point percentage.
M.James stock is rising as more players get signed. I say, If Mike hasn't signed a deal by Sunday, the Rockets and Raps could have a sign and trade with Houston using their trade exception. I've seen that Dallas has offered the MLE. I don't think he will demand much more, but I think the Rockets can offer a little more if the Raps agree to deal. Right? It would leave the MLE intact. Right now I would say the priorities should be scorer- any position 2 guard backup Center
With Nene signing a $10 million/year contract, Gooden would use that as leverage to try to get a bigger contract. I think that this pretty much shuts the door on the Rockets acquiring him, as a sign-n-trade would need to involved Howard. There is no way the Cavs could want him. I think Mike James might just be the best option on the free agent market, and that isn't a good thing...
