an article in the laker forum suggested that cassell and the clips were done? the clips already have livinston, so i dont see cassell leaving as a BIG deal. obviously he would really help you guys, but if his hip start to act up, lol, then you guys will most likely lose him for an entire year like us.

I guess that's good for the Clippers unless the fans wanted to see Livingston start or get the bulk of the playing time at PG.

Livingston is still young, Cassell being here is a good thing, even if he doesn't start, he'd be the best backup in the league.

Damn....after he turned the whole franchise around, i think it's kind of a "big deal" if the Clippers plan on getting back to the 2nd round.

I think that without cassell, livinston wasnt even gonna be that good. But now, i see him as becoming an elite guard for years to come. BTW, will he be a full fledged pg when ET leaves? because now he plays some 2, and i thought i saw him at the three a few times this year.

ESPN supposedly reported that Sam won't be back with the Cavs next year. He won't take the 13 mil offer. That means either the Nuggets or the Hawks have upped their offer, or Sam is going to take the rumored Laker deal where has takes 3 years of the vet minimum and gets a promise on the coaching staff after that.

What strengths/weaknesses would Shaun Livingston have over starting over Sam Cassell right now (besides age)?

Much better defense, he can push the ball on the break better, and get the team easy oppurtunities there, he's a better passer and has better courtvision.

Weaknesses, he can't shoot as well, he's not the scorer Sam is, he's still learning the game, and he can't run the pick and pop as well as Sam, though he is better if his man rolls to the basket, but Brand likes to pop.

Sam Cassell agreed to play the final two years of his career with the Clippers late Saturday night and effectively ended the Clippers' free-agent negotiating within 24hours, an NBA source confirmed Sunday.

Cassell agreed to a two-year, $13 million contract that will allow him to follow through with his plan to play two more NBAseasons, then start a coaching career.

By the looks of the deal it looks like Cassell has accepted the fact that Livingston is the future and he will be brought in just to be a back-up. Livingston is the future, but the Clippers feel they can win now with Sam at the point.

The dude looks like a taller, more athletic Andre Miller.

Great news. I like Livingston, and he will be a solid contributor and floor general in this L for years to come. However, without Sam Cassell, Id be hard pressed to say this team would have enjoyed as much success as they did least season. Sam isn't stupid, and he realizes hes getting older, but his knowledge and skill are still there. The Clippers would have been stupid to let him go.
