maybe i'm wrong about Utah, and if i am please correct me.

But i'll guess the reason people dont want to play there would be 1) everything closes early..no real "night life" 2) no booze in the state...other than boozer of course

My brother went there a while back, and hated it. the ski town he stayed in was cool, but the rest sucked he said. like civic said, he complained that there was NO night life and that people were jsut really weird there for the most part.

The people here and really conservative...some are still very racist

...there is basically no "night life" unless you know what your looking for...some law about under 21's curfew is like 11:30 or something

and booz is very hard to get...liquor stores close at 5 in the afternoon

basically...there's nothing to do here besides ball

There might not be any night life in Utah, but Las Vegas is only an hour plane flight away. These players make enough money to just live in Vegas and fly back and forth if the nightlife is that important to them.

I don't think free agents want to play in Utah, because their starting 5 is pretty much set. Their core group is relatively young and SG seems to be the only position open. However, they seem to be confident in CJ Miles eventually becoming the full time starter there.

I would think Utah would be the ideal place for veterans who wanna settle down with families and just focus on basketball. The team does have a successful history and team record and the fans are always supportive.

if you look at the roster, they have a lot of white players compared to the rest of tyhe league. Araujo, Giricek, Harpring, Kirilenko, Okur and 3 of there 5 starters are white, which is the most in the league.

The thing about those white guys are they're international, Harpring is the only American. And who says Araujo is a starter? Before Deron Williams we had McLeod starting, then when Giricek got hurt we had Devin Brown fill in. That means we only had 2 white guys starting, Okur and AK, both from Europe. It'd be a different story if we had all americans, but we have Europeans, how many black Euros do you see? Plus most black guys don't want to come to Utah, how would you feel about playing in a Mormon state that is still a little racist? They'll have no night life or anything like they'd have in Miami, LA or NY.

There is nothing wrong with Utah, I live in Idaho and I am a mormon. I love the state but that probalbly leads back to being a mormon but the point is that Utah isn't that bad of a state. Well for me! lol

I just think that Utah doesn't want to sign anyone big. Like shape said, they pretty much have their starters set and have a very young core. It doesn't have anything to do with night life or things to do or any of that stuff. Trust me, money talks and if Utah wanted to they can sign a big name free agent. Boozer, when he was a free agent, was a pretty big name and he choose to come here.

Most people don't know what the hell they are talking about, and just repeat what they hear.

I've lived in SLC my whole life. I'm not mormon though, since my family is from south america.... it is not at all like people tend to make it out as. Yes there are plenty of mormons...... but then again most of the mormons i know drink and smoke on the weekends. There are plenty of blacks, latinos, islanders, etc. I have yet to come across a real racist person. The curfew thing for under 21 someone mentioned is not true. If you are under 18 I believe there is a curfew of 11 or 12.... but this is if you are walking around in the streets downtown. And this is probably enforced as much as jaywalking is.

Liquor is hard to get? are you kidding me? I got wasted for my first time when I was 14. I have been drinking occassionaly on weekends ever since. I never once had problems obtaining it. You have to be 21 to buy alcohol, but isn't it like that in most places in the USA? Getting alcohol in highschool was a piece of cake. It was everywhere. Getting it in college is even easier. Getting drugs is just as easy if that is your thing. This is not an issue. And yes you are wrong 02civic. NO, things do NOT close early, and yes, there is booze in the state.

I'm still 18, so I haven't really gotten too much into the club scene yet, but there are plenty of them open all night long. And did I mention Utah has hot girls? Hmmm......

So yeah, it's not as bad as people make it out to be. There is everything here that you can find in other places. And if you need more of it, fly to vegas in 45 minutes.
