<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Denver Post - The Denver Nuggets and restricted free agent big man, Nene, have agreed to a 6-year/60 million dollar contract. Nene has career averages of 10.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. With the re-signing of Nene, the rumors of Kenyon Martin's impending exit from Denver are heating up.</div> Thats a horrible deal for the nuggets..10 mill each year and hes always injured.
Foolish signing with the injury history of Nene. I think Nene can be a great player, but he needs to put together a full season before you invest $60Million in him. I don't think any team with cap space would have pursued Nene, and the Nuggets probably didn't have to make this type of commitment to him. Hopefully a few of those years are team options, in case Nene continues to struggle with injuries.
Nene has only really had one bad season with injuries, which was last year. The year before he missed 27 games but i dont think that means hes going to be injury prone the rest of his career. They probably did rush this signing. Earlier in the season there was talk of other teams wanting Nene. But there has been virtually no talk of any team wanting him in the last 3 months. I think they should have waited a while.
Horrible signing for the Nuggets at this point. I sure hope they have intentions on sending KMart somewhere, otherwise they're gonna have a couple overpaid guys in that frontline.
That's horrible. That's too much. I don't see how Denver will contend, seeing as how they will now have no money for a long time and they still need outside shooting. That's a decent team that will get into the playoffs but had trouble even getting out of the first round (minus Nene). You've got 11 million for K-Mart, 13 million for Melo, 10 million for Nene, 8 million for Camby, 8 million for Miller. I guess the lineup is set for you guys for the near future. Unless you can get a team to pick up Kenyon.
camby is getting older, melo that deal is about right, miller no, kmart needs to leave, and nene its horrible.
60 million? Are you serious? That is awful for the Nuggets, Nene isn't even close to being offer that much.
I agree that it's a horrific signing. 10 million? With the contracts of Nene, Kenyon, Camby, and now Anthony, the Nuggets are just hurting themselves financially.
I think it's a great signing. Nene is a great player if he actually stays on the court. The reason I'm not so worried for Denver is that he had freak injuries, so that normally does not happen so many times. Anyways, with KMart not really being productive anymore due to his kness and constantly missing games, we could see Nene starting next season. He has potential still, and is a good two way player at the PF/C positions.

Nene didn't have two freak injuries, he had two major injuries to both knees. You just aren't the same player after you tear your ACL or MCL, Nene tore BOTH. Nene hasn't proven he can be a starter in the league yet, why give him that much money? There's only 4 teams with cap space this summer. The Hornets already used up their cap room on Peja. The Bobcats don't need Nene, the only team who might have interest is Chicago. However, I doubt they'd offer him $10Million a year, and Denver would be able to match any offer. The Nuggets could have signed Nene for far less.
This will be one of the contracts you look back on in 3 years and ask yourself if the GM was on crack. Giving a guy a 60 million contract even though he has no knees
What did you expect him to get though? You have C's like Rasho and Magloire making $7 or $8 million a year. A guy like Pryzbilla will probably get about $7 million/year, so what do you expect a guy like Nene who plays both ends, and when he did play, put up good numbers in relation to his MPG. He's definately better than MANY of the starting PF or C's in the league, so I don't think he really needs to prove he's a starter because he only wasn't due to who was ahead of him. If you look at his per 35 minute numbers: 02-03: 13.1 PPG / 7.6 RPG / 2.4 APG / 1.97 SPG / 1.00 BPG / 4.6 FPG 03-04: 12.7 PPG / 7.0 RPG / 2.4 APG / 1.63 SPG / 0.57 BPG / 3.9 FPG 04-05: 14.1 PPG / 8.6 RPG / 2.2 APG / 1.33 SPG / 1.27 BPG / 4.4 FPG Now, he also plays very good man to man defense in addition to that. Yes, the fouls are high, but so are most other young big men's. You have to look at what his making relative to other guys. Ilguaskas: $11 million / year Dampier: $10.4 million / year Chandler: $10.7 million / year Camby: $9.6 million / year KMart: $13 million / year Cato signed a $7 million / year contract Foyle: $8.5 million / year Murphy: $9.6 million / year Kwame: $8.3 million / year (Nene has had 2 years better than his best year, and Kwame got his contract after an injury prone season where he did nothing) PJ Brown got $8.5 million / year in 03 Eddy Curry: $10 million / year Dalembert: $9.7 million / year Rasho: $7 million / year Etan Thomas: $6 million / year When a guy like Nazr Mohmmad, Etan Thomas or Brian Skinner gets $5-6 million, and the slightly better guys like Magloire get $6-7 million, a guy like Cato gets $7 PER, a guy like Nene will at the <u>worst</u> get $8-9 million per. I think people are too quick to look at average contract amount without comparing to how the market works. Yea I know, he has no knees, but if they could, many teams would give him in the $8-10 million / year range.
A majority of those players you listed are vastly overpaid. The teams who made the mistake of overpaying have traded or are trying to trade away those bad contracts. Denver should learn from other team's mistakes by not offering Nene this type of deal. You said he hasn't started because of who's in front of him. Well, both Camby and KMart are still on the roster. If the Nuggets can't trade either player, then they have a $10Million bench player on their hands. Denver could have waited to see what other type of offers Nene would get and then go from there. I haven't heard any teams interested in him and definitely not at the price the Nuggets paid.
WOW, all of the free agents this year are getting WAY overpaid. i figured nene for the mle, not double it.
A bit of a surprise here. We knew that the Nuggs were going to make a strong push at re-signing Nene but I thought at best he was worth $6-$8 million a year. With Melo now maxed out and Nene making $10 million a year, the Nuggets are quickly digging themselves in a deep hole.

No one calls Rasho or Magloire a big name player, what they are though is big men, and it's been proven that big men will get the money. We need to stop getting surprised whenever they do like we didn't expect it to happen anyways. I see people saying MLE or whatever else, but you don't understand how the market works if you expected Nene to make less than $8-9 PER, no team would offer him less than that. Yea he's making $1-2 PER more, and $6-12 million more in total, and it is too much, but I'm not surprised. About them giving a lot of money to their bigs, and having an expensive bench guy, the guy they shouldn't have given so much money to is Kmart, since he got the max. That's not the discussion though, but Camby and Kmart both played 56 games last season. That's at least 26 games without the starting big's, and since they didn't always miss games together, it's probably closer to 40 games, about half the season. So he really won't be a backup if he stays healthy and those two stay on the same injury path.
He said overpaid, not overrated. Just cause you make more than what you deserve doesn't make you overrated.
Oh sorry, my bad, that's what happens when you're tired and tryping. Either way though, the trend is still for big men to get overpaid, we can't act surprised every time it happens.
Have they got a replacement GM yet? Perhaps whoever is doing that is getting a bit hasty. I don't mind though, if Nen? is fit, he could be very good next season.
