<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Detroit News - Ben Wallace isn't happy with the Pistons initial offer, the Detroit News is reporting. "It was disappointing," he said. "It was not at all what I expected." The Pistons' initial offer was a four-year deal starting at $11.5 million and would pay him $49.6 million over four years. It would make Wallace the highest-paid player on the team next season, eclipsing Rasheed Wallace's salary by $100,000. Pistons president Joe Dumars, reached by e-mail, said he didn't want to negotiate through the newspaper and declined comment. "No, the door's not closed (on the Pistons)," Wallace added. "I know it's a business and they have to run their business." Wallace met with Chicago Bulls general manager John Paxson and coach Scott Skiles in Detroit on Saturday. He characterized the meeting as "real good" but added that no official offer was extended. Reports of the Bulls offering a contract starting at $13 million or $14 million were overstated, as were reports of the Bulls offering a five-year deal. "I ain't looking for more than four years," said Wallace. Wallace said he expects to hear from several other teams, including Washington, New York and Cleveland, as early as today. Since all three are over the cap, a sign and trade would be necessary if Wallace was to leave Detroit.</div> Source
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting slpnsld23:</div><div class="quote_post">Goddamn all these NBA players. THeyre so greedy. How can you be dissapointed by $12 million a year!</div> I agree it's disgusting to see them complain about being compensated with a multi-million dollar deal. If getting $1Million less a year is a big deal then Ben Wallace doesn't have the best interest of the team in mind. He's doing a diservice to his team's chance of winning a championship again. The interesting part of the article is Ben only wants a 4 year deal.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting slpnsld23:</div><div class="quote_post">Goddamn all these NBA players. THeyre so greedy. How can you be dissapointed by $12 million a year!</div> Quoted for its truth value. Like shape said, the team isn't his first priority.
A guy with no offense at all, who was critical of his coach when the team needed him most...and is no longer the defensive/rebounding machine he once was is dissapointed by 12million a year. Wow let him walk
A guys got to look out for the best interest of himself and his family. I don?t blame Wallace at all for trying to get as much money as he can, this is his last opportunity to cash in and give his family a secure future. He is going to look for the best deal he can find. Hopefully, that is with the Bulls.
It's obvious that he's looking for the max from a team and he thought he was going to get it from the Pistons. I'm not surprised with the offer the Pistons made him. To play in a winning situation in Detriot, he already has something established here. Plus, he's 32, and his numbers have declined over the past couple seasons. Can't blame the Pistons.
This coming from a guy for whom "money isnt a problem" I think that maybe its time he moved on, as much as I like Ben, as Shape said, he simply isnt worth a max contract, I'd rather see us go after Joel Pryzbilla than to see Ben sign a contract any bigger than the one offered. Interesting to see Clevelands name in the mix there, I wouldnt mind a sign and trade for Big Z at all.
I don't see Ben re-signing with Detroit. He has every opportunity to go with a young, surging squad in Chicago for more money. The fact is, though the team roster is the same, more or less, these Pistons are not the same as two years ago. They don't play with the same defensive tenacity, their shot selection has worsened and there's very little depth.

I don?t blame Big Ben at all. As the Tennessee Titans showed this year with the Steve Mcnair situation you need to do what is best for yourself, because this is a business.

I think Wallace was being greedy here. BKS, take a look at a guy like Udonis Haslem who stayed with Miami for about 6-8 million less than what the Cavs had offered him when he was a free agent.
