ESPN classic's been showing some of the NBA's 'Greatest Games', actually it was during this year's finals. So I DVR's a bunch and got around to watching this one. Here's our starting lineup: Payton Kemp Perkins Pierce McKey Suns had: Barkley KJ Mark West Majerle Richard Dumas Coach was Westphal lol Anyhow, seemed we had a lot of talent that year - Nate and Cage adding defense and rebounding. Hell we even had Eddie Johnson and Dana Barros for some instant offense off the bench. I can't recall the game, only watched the first half so far. From what I've seen so far I remember being frustrated that McKey still won't shoot, I still despise KJ, Barkley was a monster and Magic was a horrible announcer. Oh and I think Amare is already better than Kemp
Was that the game Eddie J went off in crunchtime? I'm pretty sure it was sometime that series, might have been Game Seven though. Man that was a talented and deep roster.
When I think of the Sonics and the Suns in the playoffs, all I can think of is Rex Chapman. ****ing guy...
Kemp was only 16 years old in that series--so I would hold off on that Amare is already better than Kemp in his prime talk--especially considering how I've almost forgot how good Amare is right now. Speaking of that series, I actually met Barkley last Thursday at a local bar in the Pittsburgh area. He was at a Mario Lemieux golf outing and stopped past and drank for about 6 hours. His bar tab (after he bought rounds for anyone who asked or was by him when he decided to get a drink for himself) was $1,300--pocket change. He seemed like a genuinely good dude and I'm glad that I got the chance to talk to him for a while. I asked him why he doesn't show Flip more love on TNT and he answered frankly, "Cause he can't play." As hard as it is for me to say this, Flip's play in the past two seasons hasn't really proven otherwise.
To me with Flip I don't think it's a question of whether or not he can play (surely that stretch when Ray was injured showed that he can), it's more he doesn't have the mentality. By that I mean ever since that spurt, he's found it very hard to settle into team chemistry as a role player, which means whenever he's on the court, he's looking for his own shot rather than fitting into the team structure. Did you chat to Sir Charles about any other current Sonics/our draft, Shiek? Would be interested in his thoughts on our franchise.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Sir Desmond:</div><div class="quote_post">Did you chat to Sir Charles about any other current Sonics/our draft, Shiek? He was more interested in the skirts that were at the bar than he was talking hoops but I talked mostly to him about my uncle who he is good friends w/ in the Philadelphia area. I just wished that I could talk w/ people who give a damn about Sonics basketball b/c more often than the people in this area have no idea that there is even basketball being played in the Pacific Northwest.
Well I just finished the game. Majerle was incredible hitting 8-10 three's, and even Chambers came off the bench and hit some big buckets. Kemp came on in the second have, including some scintallating lefty drives to the hoop. Pierce also hit some big buckets to give us a chance but Phoenix shot incredible and our trapping defense left too many people open and created too many open lanes after they passed out of the double team. I know that's the way we played back then but I can't help but think if we played straight man we'd have gotten a few extra stops that might've made a difference.
