<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Meanwhile, plenty of competition has cropped up in the Mavericks' pursuit of James, arguably the top free-agent guard left on the market. The Atlanta Hawks and Houston Rockets, among others, are pursuing the 6-2 guard, who averaged 20.3 points for Toronto this season.

Because of the high interest, James and agent Bill Duffy appear to be in no hurry to accept the Mavericks' offer of their $5 million mid-level exception, or any other offer.

Taking their time might pay off.

The Hawks lost out on their bid to sign Sam Cassell. Since the Hawks are under the salary cap, they can offer James more money than the Mavericks.

The Mavericks appear content to wait on James, although they also are interested in Denver forward Reggie Evans.

The Rockets made a strong push for James as soon as the free-agent negotiating period started Friday. Coach Jeff Van Gundy was ringing James' doorbell at his Houston home at 11:01 p.m. to start the wooing process.

Like the Mavericks, Houston is hesitant to give James, 31, more than a three-year contract.</div>

Mavs are offering their MLE to James.

hopefully james doesnt come to dallas. he'd ruin the chemistry and he makes bad decisions. Also, I'm pretty sure Ager, Harris and JET can more than handle the point. Playing James at SG is stupid, cuz he cant guard for balls

I think after resigning Terry, the Mavs have no need for James.
Terry is a better scorer and descision maker.

Don't take time away from Harris. That would be horrible.

Mavs don't need him. Signing him would be an absolute waste of cap space for these guys.

I think he would fit better with houston. Mavs dont need him, and he dont neeed them. he wants to come to houston. so houston get ready for james.

Well obviously Cuban and Johnson feel that the Mavs need him or else they wouldn't have offered him a contract. There's not much chance that he will sign for the MLE anyways.

The Mavs also offered to do a sign and trade with Toronto for Marquis Daniels but Colangelo declined that offer.

Considering Terry signed, this is pointless IMO. The Mavs need a backup PF much more than they need another shoot-first, pass-second undersized guard. Go for Evans or another PF; leave James to Atlanta

Yeah I'm pretty sure Mike James was a backup plan incase we couldnt afford Terry. We have no need for him in Dallas now.

Its no Houston for James, but I bet he really wants to go play in Texas again.

But I don`t get this trade either when they already have Jet, Harris, and Armstrong. Go after a back PF, Dallas...

Looks like Mike James will probably be coming to Dallas. I read it on Real Gm.
