We all know its not very likely marbury of francis will get traded. It doesn't make since to give them the highest combined contracts in history either and not give them time. We have the most talent at the point-shooting guard position n the nba next to kidd and vince. We have nothing to loose and everything to gain as sorry as they were last season. When Francis got there they were already last place. We should give them at least till November to show what they can do because 2 superstar guards no matter how they play with the right coach can easily shake some things up!
Francis would be ideal off the bench. That way he can control the pace of the offense and be the primary scorer. However, I don't think playing Marbury and Francis together will be very effective.
I'd say keep marbury. he was awesome in minny, so you know he has it in him to be selfless and look for his teammates first then himself second.
I would try to get rid of them both. They are both players that just look out for themselves and only themselves. Knicks fans at this point should want change, even if that means starting Nate Robinson, Mardy Collins, and Renaldo Balkman in the back-court.
There is no way knicks are getting rid of both. Try ship Francis off this season for a start. I think Marbury will try step it up with Brown gone.
I like the replies but FreshPrince is trippin I got a stat about who's better of the two...look back at Marbury's first game in New York....sound like marbury has a good reason until not to dislike francis...but it could work..hate sometimes turns into the best kinda love! Francis Torches Marbury, Knicks Stevie burns Stephon in much-hyped home Knick debut, Rockets roll 111-79 By Clutch JANUARY 8, 2004 8:51 PM | BOX SCORE | HISTORY VS. KNICKS Role Reversal: Steve Francis took it to Stephon Marbury in his Knick home debut (Reuters photo) It was his night, especially in the third period. Francis scored 14 of his 27 in the third quarter alone, finishing with 27 points, 8 boards, 6 dimes, 3 steals, 2 blocks and one nasty crossover on Stephon Marbury. You know it's eating at Marbury that the guy who he views as having taken his All-Star starting spot (Francis) last season just abused him in the only home debut he will ever have, in front of all his friends. Despite 10 assists, Marbury shot just 3-12 from the floor for 6 points. Stephon Marbury will simply never live this one down. In front of a national TV audience with all the hype from his New York Knick home debut, all his childhood friends from Coney Island and family in attendance, all the talk about his ownership of Steve Francis... And Francis humiliated him. Steve scored 27 points, grabbed 8 boards, dished 6 assists, picked 3 steals and blocked a pair of shots, including a Marbury drive, while holding the new Knicks prize to 6 points as the Rockets routed New York 111-79 in Madison Square Garden. The loss sent the Knicks reeling, talking about firing their head coach (and former Rockets coach) Don Chaney any moment now. On the other hand, the win puts the Rockets at 20-15 on the season and the 111 points was the most they've scored all year -- and it's only the fourth time this season in 35 games that the Rockets have gone over 100 points. And this offensive explosion came less than 24 hours after Houston could muster just 66 points against Detroit. Lets face it -- Marbury isn't going to be able to shake this from his mind anytime soon. Ironic that it was almost a year ago to the day that Marbury was yelling to Francis that he was a fake All-Star and Stephon was the real deal during a 102-96 Rockets win over Phoenix in Houston. Yes, it was only Marbury's second game on a new team and yes he was nervous on the big stage in front of his friends, but Francis used and abused him ... going right at him at times. In the third at one point, Francis challenged him, crossed him right over which brought a gasp out of the crowd, and drained a long jumper right in his face. No doubt the "true All-Star", who has now been traded 4 times in his career, was embarrassed by that one. But it wasn't just Francis who was hot for the Rockets.
If you are talking who is the better point guard, its Marbury, realistically niether one has that great point guard skills. But Marbury has some of the tools, his problem is he doesnt trust his teammattes, which is probably the worst trait a pg could have. If you watch Marbury he at times will have sitautions where he looks like one of the top playmakers in the league, but if guys start missing one or two layups or open jumpers, then that is when the selfish Marbury comes out and he trys to win games by himself. Another problem with Marbury is that he never rally learned how to blend his scoring aspect and his playmaking aspect to make them effective at the same time. During a game you either get one or the other his season stats might not read that way but Iam pretty sure if you looked at his individual boxscores or watched him you would understand what Iam saying. He will either give you those 23 point 4 asssist games or he will give you 8 point 12 assist night never really the 20 point 10 assist night even tho he may average 18 & 8 for a season, so his stats dont really tell you the inconsistency of him as a playmaker and scorer. The other 4 guys on the court dont really know which Marbury they are going to get from night to night are they going to get the Marbury that looks for the open teammate and creates 3 or 4 easy baskets for Eddy Curry or Frye or are they going to get the Marbury that is going for 30 points cause he needs to prove himself in a matchup that night against Kidd, Iverson or whoever. Francis on the other hand just doesnt have point guard skills. He doesnt know how to conduct a team in the half-court. On the break his althetism takes him along way because he doesnt need to use anyone else, he can finish most plays around the rim himself. But in the half-court, where it requires you to get guys in the right spot to run sets he isnt that good. Mobley was better then him at that in Houston if you ask me. So Marbury is the better PG everyting Francis does well really has nothing to do with being a qualitly point guard. He rebounds well but that is a plus for a point guard not a requirement to being a good point guard. He is athletic, but once again a plus not a requirement. And he can score , those are all his strenghts but his biggest weakness is the fact that he doesnt think like a point guard and that unfortanately is the requirement that counts the most.
