<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Times Picayune - The rumored deal between the Hornets and Bulls centered around Tyson Chandler will likely happen before Friday, according to Arn Tellem, who is the agent for guard J.R. Smith. The rumored deal would see Chandler move to New Orleans, with forward P.J. Brown and Smith coming to Chicago. The Times-Picayune is reporting that Smith's father, Earl, said he spoke with Tellem on Tuesday morning and was told the news. "It would be a fine move that I think is great," Earl Smith said by telephone Tuesday. "It would give J.R. a chance to redeem himself, and I think he would fit in perfect with those guys. They have a chance to contend in the East." Earlier this week, Earl Smith said his son would not play for the Hornets' summer league team in Las Vegas because of the possible trade. When the Hornets released their summer roster Monday, Smith wasn't on the list.</div> http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/413..._before_friday/
I still have no idea why New Orleans does this trade. They already have Armstrong, Simmons, and West. Not to mention Chandler's contract is horrible.
I don't know why J.R. would like coming here unless for a new start. He's going to have to work hard to show Skiles something. And to move ahead of Sefolosha. But anyways... are we only sending Chandler? No Duhon, correct?
This move will allow us to just absorb Ben Wallace’s deal pretty much. We just traded in Chandler’s 60 million for Ben Wallace’s 60 million. I think PJ Brown will give us some great veteran leadership. Antonio Davis version 2.0. JR Smith I think still has some potential, but am not sure he will stay in Chicago. Too much of a log jam, and he really is not committed to defense.

But it appears only a matter of time?maybe only a few days?before he's shipped out. A league source confirmed Tuesday there are trade talks between the Bulls and the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets that would send Chandler and the remaining five years of his $60 million contract to the Hornets. In exchange for Chandler, the Hornets would send P.J. Brown and J.R. Smith to the Bulls. Bulls reserve Malik Allen had been mentioned in the talks early but is no longer part of the package, a source close to the Hornets said. The Bulls need Brown for his expiring contract to protect themselves from a potential luxury-tax issue down the line and give them future flexibility. They will pay free agent Ben Wallace $60 million over four years and owe Chandler at least $50 million for another five. </div> Source
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">Paxson for Executive of the Year if he pulls off this move.</div>Most definitely agree with that statement. In one offseason lands the biggest name on the market in Ben Wallace, dumps the huge and overpaid Tyson contract for PJs expiring one and a young swing in JR, trades #2 for #4 and lands Tyrus Thomas with it. Yea, that's a pretty good offseason so far.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">Paxson for Executive of the Year if he pulls off this move.</div> ...if it pans out. Thomas, though I wanted him, is an enigma at this point. Ditto on Thabo. Wallace was a nice signing. But his offensive ineptness was really exposed this playoff run. Dumping Chandler for Garbage is just that; a salary dump. Paxson seems to be making his names off these types of deals. Salary dumpage isn't going to turn this team into a contender. Either consolidating assets or development will. As of now, Hinrich, Gordon, Deng, Nocioni, and now Thomas need to further develop. Contending now, we are not. If Paxson wants to build a contender, he needs to consolidate some of the assets into a bigger asset (a star) to pair with Wallace. That would make him executive of the year. That, or turning around and trading the garbage for productive players who fit both the short term/long term goals of the team (see: Wilcox). Otherwise, he is simply floundering above mediocrity.
