<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Chicago Bulls and New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets on Wednesday reached a verbal agreement on the widely expected trade that will send Bulls center Tyson Chandler to the Hornets for veteran forward P.J. Brown and swingman J.R. Smith.

NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com that the players involved have been notified that the deal will officially go through July 12, which is the first day NBA teams can officially complete signings and trades after the league announces the salary cap for the 2006-07 season.

The ability to deal away Chandler, who has five years and $54 million left on his contract, was crucial for the Bulls in their pursuit of Ben Wallace. They likely couldn't have offered Wallace as much as they did -- nearly $60 million over four years -- without receiving Brown's much friendlier contract in return.

The willingness to take on Chandler's contract, meanwhile, represents the third bold move from the traditionally quiet Hornets in the space of a week, after years of criticism endured by Hornets owner George Shinn for his reluctance to spend.

"It's my understanding that the trade is going to happen," said Mark Bartelstein, Brown's agent. "P.J. is very excited. He feels like the Bulls have an opportunity to compete for a championship. He really enjoyed his time with the Hornets, but he has so many fond memories of his days in Miami and contending every year that Chicago is a really good situation for him to get back to."</div>

damn. nice trade by the bulls. pj brown is a solid veteran who is tough as nails, and can still put up nice numbers. jr smith has all the talent and potential in the world. all he has to do is get his head straight.

the bulls get rid of tyson chandler and his big contract. chandler, who IMO never really lived up to the expectations, gets to have a fresh start with the hornets. him and CP3 will definitely make some highlight reels. this is a great trade by the bulls. not only do they trade away a huge contract, but they get back a solid veteran and a young player who can very well become an all star.

JR doesnt work with the coach, and PJ is old.

PJ is old, but do the bulls really need more young players? he isnt the youngest guy, but the guy can still play. he plays with heart and passion and is not afraid to do the dirty work.

jr smith is a big question. the guy has tons of potential and could be a star some day in the league, but like you said, he doesnt work well with the coach. he also has a very bad work ethic. but if he somehow gets his head into the game, the bulls will walk away with a huge steal

guess this means the KG trade isnt happening. seems like a solid move by both teams though...hornets get rid of smith, who wasnt going to be playing even if he stayed, and the bring in a young big man.

bulls get more depth, and add youth AND veteran leadership/toughness at the same time...plus unload chandler's contract.

    seems win/win to me

PJ Brown is old, but he can still play. He averaged a double double two seasons ago. He put up good numbers this past season, and will fill the Antonio Davis role for our team. A veteran who can give us much needed experience, and a great guy to teach the youngsters how to be professionals. JR Smith is still talented I don?t think he is a Scott Skiles type player, but people can change. He has all the potential in the world he just needs to get his head right. Another thing PJ Brown thin good about this trade is that his contract expires after this season. So we basically keep our flexibility to sign a big name in the 07? class of free agents, and absorb Wallace?s contract.

Great news for the Bulls. I wonder what the Hornets' rationale behind the deal was though.. did they get anything out of it?

Very solid news for the Bulls. They get a fresh talent in JR Smith and a Vet who knows his role. This definitly adds depth to the bench for them.

On the Hornets view on this I like it as well. Like Brian said earlier, Chand will get a fresh start. Add on to him working on his offensive and defensive game and him and CP3 should have some nice moments.

The Hornets probably locked up someone who's going to be there center for a long time with these deal even though they already had a solid frontcourt with David West, PJ, Cedric and Hilton. Now I guess Cedric and Hilton will be coming off the bench if Tyson performs well. I think Tyson can be a good players with the Hornets and a great player like Chris Paul, This trade puts the bulls in a good situation financially as well, JR has 2 [maybe 3] years left on his deal and if im not mistaken this next season is PJ's last [or second last] year of his deal. Signing Big Ben was a good move since they had something in place to do with Chandler.

Bulls didn't make this trade to aquire PJ Brown for skill purposes. They did it to free up more money. It gives them flexability. Hornets got what they wanted in a young talents player that has many years to improve and grow with a young team. There is no loser in this trade, because they both got what they wanted.

Oh yeah they did man. They got a young down low presence. He will fit right in with the core of Paul, and David West.

I wanted to keep Chandler, but there was no way we would because of his contract. So I'm guessing Chandler was the only one traded right? Mentions no one else's name from the Bulls. I hope he does well there. BTW, does Brown play PF?

Man these Bulls are looking nice. I actually think trading young pieces such as Deng, Duhon and Thomas for Garnett would actually be a step BACKWARDS. Right now, Chicago has the perfect blend of age and youth.

I expect Smith to be traded. Probably for another big man, one who can score a little.

We can?t get much in return for JR Smith unless we intend on eating into our cap room a little. His contract is extremely small considering he is still on his rookie contract, he makes less than a million a year. We might have to package some players together. Although, there contracts don?t have to match, because we are under the cap. I don?t think the team wants to hurt our chances of landing one of the big fish in the 07? free agent class.
