<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Over the past few years, the Utah Jazz have assembled a quality frontcourt. It looks like they want a backcourt to match it. The Salt Lake Tribune reported Wednesday that the Jazz have reached agreement in principle on a four-player trade with the Golden State Warriors that would bring point guard Derek Fisher to Utah. Utah's backcourt was a revolving door last season, with 2005 first-round pick Deron Williams coming along slowly at the point, and journeyman Devin Brown and his 6.3 career scoring average earning starts at shooting guard. Things will be different this season. According to the Tribune, the Jazz will ship Brown and guards Keith McLeod and Andre Owens to the Warriors for Fisher. That comes after the Jazz drafted combo guard Ronnie Brewer out of Arkansas and Williams' former teammate, point Dee Brown from Illinois, in this year's draft. The trade with the Warriors will not become official until Owens signs a free-agent contract with the Jazz, something he can't do until July 12.</div> Source
I love this trade for the Warriors. Not only do they dump Fisher's contract, they picked up Andre Owens. This kid plays with a lot of tenacity and confidence. I can't believe Utah gave up on him so quickly. If you like the way Monta Ellis approaches the game, Andre Owens is similar. Hopefully the Warriors give him a chance to make the roster or develop in the NBADL.
Even if all three guys are utterly worthless, we're free from a ridiculously long contract and a guy who doesn't really play point guard at all. If we're not setting up players from the SG or SF or PF/C positions, we need that pure point to create plays for everyone. That's what made Baron effective until teams started figuring out the Warriors' weaknesses in shooting, playcalling and inside scoring. I'll miss Fisher's 3-point shooting/free throw shooting and his toughness, but man I don't miss anything else he did when it came to floor leadership. He could be as bad as Baron Davis with the shot selection and we couldn't capitalize on fastbreak points with him controlling the ball. All he was good for at point guard was the occasional pass and bringing the ball up. He did not know what to do with the ball it seemed. His decent assist numbers are not illustrative of the types of things he did to destroy the momentum on offense and the flow of the game. 1 down, 2 or 3 to go
Nice cap-clearing move by the Warriors but I think they could have gotten more in return. Three guards? With Devin Brown, I'm assuming Pietrus' days are numbered. Owens is a nice, athletic talent. I don't see where McLeod fits in, although he does add depth at PG if Davis re-injures himself again.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Rocket:</div><div class="quote_post">With Devin Brown, I'm assuming Pietrus' days are numbered.</div> Pietrus' days were numbered before this trade. He'll demand too much. But Devin Brown will be a reserve back-up even if he isn't traded this summer as part of a bigger move. All three of these guards have 1 year on their deals, so they'll all be gone by next year at the latest. D-Fish? He's got 4 years left. He'll be riding that cash-cow all the way into the next decade. Mullin didn't make this trade for what he was getting, he made it for what he was getting rid of. McCleod can play center for all I care.... the Fish is swimming in Utah!!!!
It's a no-win situation for us with point guards... Either they can shoot but they can't dribble penetrate. Or they can dribble penetrate but they can't shoot. Doh! Imagine if we had Michael Dunleavy Jr. and Mickael Pietrus. Ah somebody beat me to it...

I like this move. First of all I was impressed with Fisher's scoring, but that is not what we signed him for IMO. I am glad his long contract will be off the books. Now if we could only get rid of Foyle's contract. I also think Ellis is more than ready to at least take Fisher's PT...

Well it's official, Fisher is gone. While his game wasn't great he was clutch, professional, a hard worker, and our best FT shooter. I think the reason we were so harsh on him was because of his contract, not his fault though, blame Mullin! Anyway with him gone our best FT shooter now is Murphy I think, and he may be gone soon also...
This is kind of strange but the Warriors best FT shooters are each power forwards. Ike Diogu first Murphy second.
