<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">ESPN - The Orlando Magic are holding guard J.J. Redick out of summer league play because of a back injury, the Associated Press is reporting. Redick repeatedly has said he's not bothered by the herniated disc in his back, an injury announced just before the Magic took him No. 11 overall in the NBA draft. He received a cortisone shot about a month ago and said he won't need surgery. "I feel I could be out there, but we had to decide if it was worth the risk and not take the chance," he said. General manager Otis Smith said Friday the club was holding him out as a precaution because Redick hasn't played full in four weeks.</div> Source
I understand why they are going to sit him out, because all the injuries he had before the draft. Fans will have to wait till pre-season I guess.
I think this sucks, the biggest reason I wanted to watch the streaming was to see how J.J. would do. Oh well, I guess we're going to have to wait until preseason. Hopefully he heals completely and is ready to go by then. I'd rather have him missing useless summer league games than regular season ones.
To me this just tells me that the injury that the Magic organization said wasn't serious, actually is serious. The thing about the article that I don't understand is he said he still might try out for Team USA this offseason. If he isn't going to play summer league for us, so that he can heal, why is he even considering going to Team USA tryouts? What's the chances he makes the team anyway? Mike Bianchi said it best.... "The Orlando Magic have gotten a replacement for Grant Hill in JJ Redick, another injured Duke player."

It's "precautionary" and I'd rather have him missing these games than regular season games where they count all because he didn't heal well enough over the summer.

I just am scared of back injuries, because they tend to nag you over and over again. (just ask Tmac)

I think this is a good move by the Magic and it is just to make sure that he's good to go by the time the regular season comes around. Plus, it's not like it was his choice to sit out. The Magic front office decided he would be better off resting and healing his back. I don't think this injury is as serious as your making it out to be Gators. Tracy McGrady had back problems all throughout his career. Redick just hurt his back during a workout at the PreDraft Camp. He never had any back problems at Duke and it's just a matter of time until we forget about this injury. To me the McGrady situation is much different from this one and Redick will be fine.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting GatorsowntheNCAA:</div><div class="quote_post">Then why is he still considering going to USA tryouts? ^^^^ It's not like he's resting by going there.</div> Because he feels he's well enough to play for the Summer League team. It was up to management whether or not he plays and they decided he should rest. This shows he's okay if he is still willing to try out for Team USA. If it were up to him he would be out there playing in the Summer League.

You don't go disobeying an organization, especially when you haven't played a game yet.
