Anyway, he got 12/5/2blocks in 20 minutes of action. The only thing that concerns me is the 6 fouls. Farmer looks great aswell from the stat sheet. It looked as if he didn't shoot well so he got to the line more and earned his points that way.
Farmar Makes Good Impression <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">His final semester at UCLA ended a few weeks ago, but it looked as if Jordan Farmar had been doing a little studying on the side. The Lakers draft pick showed the same poise he had in two seasons with UCLA and, an added bonus for Lakers followers, demonstrated some decent knowledge of the triangle offense Saturday in the Summer Pro League at the Pyramid of Long Beach. Farmar, drafted 26th overall, had 17 points and three assists in 31 minutes of an 89-87 Lakers loss to the Memphis Grizzlies' summer league entry. The competition will be significantly more challenging in a few months, but all in all, not a bad debut for Farmar. "He as well as anybody has picked up the offense the quickest," said Lakers assistant coach Kurt Rambis, who is in charge of the summer league team. "He seemed like he came in and had been studying it or something. He knows what we're doing. He understands what we want him to do." Farmar showed the ability to penetrate and took numerous trips to the free-throw line, making seven of nine from there. He also demonstrated the same on-court vocal command he had at UCLA. Farmar said he was acting mostly on instinct. No studying for the triangle. "To me, it's pretty much basic principles," he said. "I just get it." A key for Farmar over the next few months is to get stronger. He is listed at 6 feet 2 and 180 pounds, slightly generous in each category. There will be eight more summer league games, and then there will be a lot of lifting. Training camp begins in early October. "Once this is over, get to work," Farmar said. "When you get in there with the big men, you've got to box out and rebound." Danilo Pinnock, whom the Lakers acquired from Dallas on draft day for a future second-round pick, had 16 points. Andrew Bynum had 12 points. </div> link: http://www.latimes.com/sports/basketball/n...orts-nba-clippe
Roberts dominated for the Grizzlies. Farmer has a nice start. Pinnock did pretty well except for the turnovers. Bynum only played 20 mins, had 6 fouls, but they don't matter in SL.
Lakers VS Mavs Boxscore http://www.summerproleague.com/july9game2.pdf bynum had a nice showing, and a solid game by farmar. wafer with 18 points!!
Summer League, Impressive #'s <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Andrew Bynum, Lakers The second-year center tallied 14 points, 15 rebounds and five blocked shots in a 97-69 victory over the Mavericks. </div> Source Wafer had 18 points on 7-15 and 3 steals. Not bad. Farmar had 13 points, 4 steals, and 6 assists. Pretty good as well. Pinnock had 11 points on 5-9 shooting as well as getting 1 blocked shot, 1 assist and 4 rebounds. The summer league is shining with our talent. I'll let you guys see the rest of the stats.
already posted in the SPL thread. if you have any SPL news or boxscores, just post here: http://www.justbball.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56311 thanks
Lakers 87 Memphis 84 Click the link below for an in deep review about the players and the game: http://lakers.mostvaluablenetwork.com/gene...-lal-87-mem-84/ It seems like Bynum had another great game, same with Farmar. But guys like Wafer and Green struggled a bit.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Andrew Bynum showed some very strong play. He showed two post moves. One, is a spin off of his right foot to face up for a 2′ shot. The other was a drop-step for a dunk. Speaking of dunks, he’s playing with more authority, dunking with contact and from his own shot creation. He showed dramatic improvement with his ability to finish against the guy he struggled against just last Saturday. He also has only 1 recorded blocked shot, but did come out to help more effectively in the 4th quarter. He finished with 24 points on 8 of 11 from the field (among half the field goals being dunks), 8 of 15 from the stripe, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 blocked shot.</div> This is what I want to hear from Bynum, just getting the ball and dunking it everytime. He needs to be a beast down low and use his length and size to just overpower his defender.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Jordan Farmar was by far the player of the game. Forget the fact that Bynum showed strong ability to finish. Farmar was the guy continually looking to Bynum, trying to isolate him on the low block, find him in transition, find him on dribble penetration, etc. He scored a quick 6 points in the 4th quarter to lead a 4th quarter surge. Midrange jumpers. Layups on dribble penetration from both the left and right side. Creating plays for teammates where the following swing pass led to a wide open shot. Point Guard personified. Best of all, in the 4th quarter, he came up with 2 critical stops on Kyle Lowry, denying him a lane to the basket, as well as contesting 2 3-point shots late in the game to prevent open looks for the Grizzlies to tie. I really can’t say enough about his play today. The stats don’t reveal how complete his offensive decision-making and repertoire actually is. He finished the game with 21 points on 7 of 10 shooting (mostly layups), 1 of 4 behind the arc, 6 of 8 behind the stripe, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 turnovers, and 1 blocked shot</div>.This is exactly the kind of stuff I like to hear. Hearing this makes me more and more happy that we landed Farmar. From the way this is making it out, it sounds like he's becoming a great leader on the court, and that he's being able to get it done offensively when called upon as well. Hopefully he can keep this up and give Smush a run for the starting job this season. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Farmar’s understanding of the triangle offense is through the roof. </div>And yet another sign of how good Jordan Farmar is doing. Smush took god knows how long to understand it, if he even understands it...according to this guy, Farmar is pretty much there.
Please don't send Farmar to the NDBL. He's already showing signs of understanding the triangle, which is more than Smush. I don't know if he should start but the only way he's going to learn is playing in real NBA matches, not against NDBL teams. I hope Bynum get's his wish of 15 minutes a game because he's showing hunger. The more he play's, the more he improves. He is going to be huge for us in the future.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting whatthef?:</div><div class="quote_post">Anybody know why Vujacic is't playing SPL?</div> Third year players usually don't have to report to SPL games. I keep hearing Danilo Pinnock has been impressive on the floor for the Lakers. He's already grasped a lot of the Triangle offense and is very aggressive at taking the ball to the rim. He's athletic and has mad hops. Von Wafer and Devin Green have looked terrible in the first couple of games. Neither have guaranteed deals, I wouldn't be surprised if one or both aren't on the roster this upcoming season and Pinnock makes the team.
Farmar Continues to Impress <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"><font color=""Red"">Lakers coach Phil Jackson has a notorious history of not playing rookies but don't tell Jordan Farmar that. Or Brian Shaw.</font> Before Tuesday night's Summer Pro League game at the Walter Pyramid against the Memphis Grizzlies, which the Lakers won 87-84, the Lakers assistant coach said that Farmar, their first round draft pick out of UCLA, has impressed him more than anybody and as long as Farmar keeps progressing, there's no reason why he can't play valuable minutes this season. Last season's first round pick, Andrew Bynum barely saw any playing time once the season started. "Ultimately, that'll be up to Phil but if Jordan keeps playing well here and in training camp, I don't see why he can't be in the rotation," Shaw said. "It's really up to Jordan to be honest with you. "First he has to grasp the offense, but if he can do that, he can help us. He's impressed me this summer. He has skills and instincts that you can't teach. Right now, it's just of matter of him getting stronger and experience but so far, he's done a great job for us." In his first game on Saturday in a 89-87 loss to the Grizzlies, Farmar made a strong first impression, scoring 17 points while showing the toughness he was known for at UCLA, driving to the basket and going to the free throw line nine times. One day later, he was equally as good in a 97-69 win over the Dallas Mavericks, scoring 13 points and handing out six assist. "I feel comfortable right now in the offense," Farmar said. "But I can't worry about impressing people or anything like that. I'm just trying to work hard and do my job and help us get wins." </div> link: http://www.presstelegram.com/sports/ci_4039684
