They both have had their moments especially Wafer who had 18 points earlier on. I do agree though that it will be doubtful that we will see them again.

This is really impressive though. Farmar and Bynum, as well as Pinnock are killing. I want a glimpse into to the future to see these boys in action [IMG] .

Wafer always looks good in the SPL then disappears in the real deal. I hope Farmar and Bynum both get spots on our roster as well as some minutes.

Well he sounds like Sasha. Beautiful touch in practice, bellyflops in the real deal. Now don't get me wrong Sasha has his good moments on defense and offense but most of the time he is...."out there".

Bynum and Farmar are most definitly going to get spots on the roster this season.

    Here's a game recap:

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Game

Jordan Farmar and Marcus Douthit sat out today’s game. Today’s starters were Byron Sanders, JR Pinnock, Devin Green, Nile Murry, and Ed Fobbs. Unfortunately, the best sequence of the game was within the first 2 minutes of the 1st quarter. Right from the tipoff, Jelani McCoy got the jump-ball and made it an offensive tip to push for a fast break. Pinnock came from the weak side and blocked the layup. Pinnock proceeded to hit a reverse layup on a back-door cut within the triangle offense off of a high post screen, another back-door sequence within the triangle for a two-hand flush that brought the hoop down, and another power dunk off a Byron Sanders’s missed jump-shot from midrange.

It was all downhill from there.

The Lakers pulled a 16-6 run in the first 10 minutes into the 1st quarter, and finished the quarter 21-12. Surprising score despite giving more playing time to non-typical starters. Dallas led a two quarter surge, eventually taking the lead early in the 4th, up to 5 points. With Bynum in the game, the Lakers made a scoring run, due to execution of the triangle offense. Bynum did an excellent job finding the open man, hitting Marcus Slaughter who was on fire from midrange and showing a sweet drop pass to Kasib Powell on a back-door layup. Triangle execution extended the lead and sealed the 99 to 87 victory.

    The Players

    Dallas Mavericks

Only two players stood out for the Mavs, and that was Yuta Tabuse, a 5′9″ point guard from Japan, who played with high energy, hit clutch shots with the shotclock winding down, nailed from midrange, and was a consummate playmaker. <font color=""Red"">Brian Boddicker, formerly of Texas, blocked two Andrew Bynum dunk attempts. While Bynum did look very tired and unmotivated on the floor, the effort shown today was sub-par.</font>

    Los Angeles Lakers

Marcus Slaughter was the best player on the floor today. He couldn’t miss from midrange and took full advantage of the defense rotating off of him. On a fast break sequence, defensively, he blocked 1 layup, then blocked the 2nd layup attempted by the Maverick trailer. He showed great activity on the boards, provided the best weakside help on the team, and just played a simple, but strong game. He finished with 17 points on 7 of 9 shooting, 2 of 3 behind the stripe, 6 boards, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 3 blocks in 28 minutes.

Devin Green played a typical game for him, showing that he does have an improved perimeter jump-shot and continues to do the small things that reflect high hoop IQ within the offense. He finished with 16 points on 6 of 10 shooting, 1 of 1 behind the arc, 3 of 5 behind the stripe, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal.

Ed Fobbs got starting duty today, played with good energy and contributed with 7 rebounds, 5 on the offensive glass.

Nile Murry did his Tim Hardaway impersonation when Hardaway shot 3 of 28 in a playoff game. Murry went 0 of 11. Simply gunned shots and couldn’t hit anything, even when he was taking high percentage shots within the context of the offense.

Danilo Pinnock played a solid game. After a hot start, he cooled off, but it was very evident that he was the best triangle initiator on the team with Farmar out. Even then, the level of execution and energy of the team lacked bounce and purpose. He finished with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 blocked shot on 6 of 13 shooting.

<font color=""red"">Andrew Bynum played his worst game by far. A fumbled jumphook that was miscued due to some contact. A spin move 2′ face up jump-shot that missed. Blocked twice on dunk attempts off of a well executed pick and roll play and fast break. He was lumbering up and down the floor, lacking any kind of real energy or explosion. He missed some box-outs, failed to fight hard on a repost for better position, and was slow on weak rotation. </font>The only positive note was how well he was surveying the floor, continually hitting back-door cutters, Powell and Green for layups, and finding Slaughter opened from midrange.

Von Wafer scored 11 points on 4 of 10 shooting. Nothing new to report. Same high speed, highly athletic Wafer driving hard to the paint, hitting his perimeter jumpshots, and showing good hands defensively with 2 steals. Not bad for 18 minutes of play.

Doron Perkins had his best SPL game yet. He took advantage of transition opportunities as well as good shots within the offense. He alongside Slaughter were the only players that played with any kind of real energy on the floor, and it’s easy to see why he won the MVP award in the Japanese league. He’s simply a solid consummate guard who displays a little of everything. He finished with 14 points on 5 of 6 shooting, 1 of 2 behind the arc, 3 of 3 behind the stripe, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 2 turnovers. Certainly a stat-filler. </div>

Even though we won, I'm kind of dissapointed. I expected a lot more out of Bynum. Sure, he got a couple of assists, but I expected him to be a lot more aggressive. Come on Bynum! This is the summer league, you should be dominating!

The majority of the team played pretty well though. Besides Bynum and Farmar, who is everyone rooting for? I'm going for Wafer and Green [IMG]

Can't argue with that. I'm rooting for 5 people. Pinnock, Wafer, Green, Bynum, and Farmar.

Bynum needs to step it up. 82 grueling games in the NBA. No more sissy stuff. CONDITIONING CONDITIONING!!! At 19, he should have all the energy in the world.

I think so too. If he is getting tired for the simple fact of the games playing their toll on him, he really needs to step up.

    <font color=""Purple"">Game 5 LAL 114, WAS 85</font>

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Game

Score is not reflective of a typical high scoring, fast paced game. Instead, the game was rather sporadic. Tempo was pushed often, but the Laker team could hardly get a solid 5 minutes of smart play on the floor in one spurt. At halftime, the score was 55-47. The Lakers played a solid 3rd quarter, and blew out the Wizards in the 4th with some good moments of triangle execution. What happens when the team executes like they should? Despite solid talent from the Wizards, the entire quarter was a scoring run in Laker favor 35 to 17.

    The Players

    Washington Wizards

Surprisingly, neither of the Wizard draft picks, Oleksiy Pecherov and Vladimir Veremeenko played. Both are 6′10″ power forwards with perimeter ability. The Wizards do boast a formidable lineup;, Will Solomon from Clemson, 2nd rounder Peter John Ramos, 2nd round high school prospect Andray Blatche, and undrafted Rashad Anderson from UConn.

Will Solomon plays for Maccabi Tel Aviv, good international competition. Good size and good athleticism, but prone to ball-handling errors in full-court situations and some erratic decision-making. He?s more comfortable as a scoring guard, but at 6′2″ with average athleticism, it?ll be hard to make the road to the NBA without significant point guard skill improvement.

Peter John Ramos is a 7′4″ center who bulked up significantly compared to last season. His chest and shoulders are large. One would guess a 25lb. increase in weight. Even when he fouled players attacking the basket, they took hard hits. That certainly didn?t win favor with the crowd. Ramos was known for having a decent post game, midrange game, and some athleticism. He was able to get decent shots at the basket, but they were shots from poor angles on the floor. Jumphooks, drop steps, short jumpers. These are skills within his repertoire but lacked serious polish and any kind of fundamental consistency. He did provide a challenge to Bynum, being both taller and stronger, but Bynum wasn?t phased. Overall, he had a poor game.

Andray Blatche was the surprise of the lineup. Looked more like he was 6′9″ than the 6′11″ listing on his draft profiles. What was more surprising is, he was projected to be a solid center or power forward. He displayed very good ball-handling skills, to the point of playing point forward and calling out plays at the top of the key. He did a solid job slashing to the hoop, hitting a 3-pointer, midrange shots, jumpshots off the dribble, and one thunderous dunk off an offensive rebound. He?s not a power forward anymore, but rather a small forward with nice passing skills and decent awareness. Along all of those skill improvements, he gained at least 15lbs. as well. He?s definitely a steal pick for the Wizards, who obviously schooled him with guard skills over paint skills. He finished with 26 points on 8 of 16 shooting, 1 of 4 behind the arc, 9 of 10 at the free throw line, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 6 turnovers, and 2 blocked shots. Right now he compares in a favorable way between Qyntel Woods and Jonathan Bender.

Rashad Anderson is a lights-out shooter from UConn. When he?s spotting up and he has his feet under him, simply count it. He was on fire early on hitting from 18′-21′ along the perimeter. In the 2nd half, he made a more conscious effort to create shots, a big weakness for him. Those same shots rimmed in-and-out. He?s not an explosive athlete and doesn?t have great explosion to the basket, nor vertical leap to really maintain strong form and hit from the perimeter. He finished with 13 points on 4 of 10 shooting, 5 of 5 from the stripe, 3 rebounds, and 3 turnovers.

    The Lakers

One day off really paid off for Andrew Bynum, as he regained the explosiveness as seen in prior games. He utilized a spin pivot move for a face up 2′ jumper, and did the same along the baseline, a slight fadeaway to hit the shot from 8′. For the first time in the SPL, he created a solid jumphook. He showed great base, proper spacing away from the defender, ball-protection, and follow-through with a nice touch. A very positive sign. Other times he drop stepped for dunks and finished with authority. The midrange jumper still hasn?t fallen for him. Defensively, he got into some foul trouble, some calls were bogus. He did have a nice backhand block on Andray Blatche?s layup attempt. He did a very good job on Ramos, playing him straight up, denying position well, and doing a fair job of rooting him out of the paint. The only problem he had was against Chris Burgess, who hits perimeter jumpers at a high clip. Bynum simply doesn?t like contesting midrange jumpshots from centers. He finished with 19 points on 9 of 13 shooting, 1 of 4 from the stripe, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks in 34 minutes.

A solid game from Bynum, where he took advantage of better isolation opportunities in the post, got some good post passes from the guards, and took his time creating the shot. The question for him is actually help defense. He should really be a defensive anchor altering shots against NBA talent, but somehow ends up 1-2 steps behind the play, sometimes late in rotation and out of position to make a defensive play.

Doron Perkins played his best SPL game yet. He graduated from the Japanese league and should be playing against stronger European competition. He put on a full-court press against Solomon and Rashad Anderson and picked them off the dribble for layups. He makes smart passes within the offense. He doesn?t force the issue and continues to take excellent shot attempts within the triangle offense. Midrange jumpers, 3-point shots, layups. He finished with 19 points on 5 of 9 shooting, 1 of 4 behind the arc, 8 of 8 from the stripe, 1 rebound, 1 assists, 4 steals, and 1 blocked shot. He?s simply a solid point guard all-around.

Danilo Pinnock scored a quiet 13 points on 6 of 7 shooting with 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. He has a knack for deflecting the ball from opponents, as well as utilizing pivot moves to create good layup attempts. He had a great sequence where he initiated a fast break from a steal, noticed the defense didn?t commit, used a ball-fake, and simply shot the layup. He does a great job creating high percentage shots within the context of his game, namely a slight step-back fadeaway jumpshot from midrange. His offensive repertoire is very polished and he knows how to maximize his abilities within a halfcourt setting. Solid defense as usual.

Jordan Farmar played a quiet game with 13 points on 4 of 9 shooting, 1 of 2 behind the arc, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals. There was a lack of bounce in his step, but did a decent job defensively considering he was recovering from injury. He drove baseline on the left side for layup. He hit a 3-pointer on a high pick and roll situation within the triangle set. What was most impressive was how he utilized a crossover to attack the basket down the middle of the paint, and shot a left-handed teardrop; a made basket. Another solid game.

Marcus Slaughter tried to force the action a bit. His job is not to create shots, but he tried to post up a player with no success, forced a contested midrange jumper, and shot another midrange jumper off an offensive rebound when the Lakers needed to reset the offense. Bynum couldn?t find him any open looks and no defender was doubling off of him for open shots. He finished with 9 points on 2 of 8 shooting, 5 of 7 from the stripe, 7 rebounds, 5 offensive, and 2 steals. He?s playing like Udonis Haslem and does need a strong interior presence to draw double teams away from him to knockdown midrange shots. His hustle and defense were spirited.

Devin Green scored 13 points on 5 of 11 shooting, 3 of 4 form the stripe, 4 rebounds, and 1 steal. He did have a nice sequence when he blew past a couple defenders along the baseline and hit a reverse layup, then drove by another defender and shot a quick layup with accuracy. Otherwise, nothing new to report of his game. Some hints of high IQ play and solid defense as usual.

Tomorrow should be the strongest competition for the Lakers yet, with Kyle Lowry and Rudy Gay now ready to play in the Summer Pro League. Hopefully Farmar and Bynum continue to build off of the chemistry from two games ago.

    Boxscore: http://www.summerproleague.com/july14game5.pdf

    <font color=""purple"">Game 6 LAL 77, MEM 88</font>

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The game was slow and torturous, as 69 total foul calls were made between both teams. A scrambling defense by the Grizz led to plenty off-timed and poorly executed triangle sequences. There was a good 3 minute stint by Danilo Pinnock in the 2nd quarter, but the Lakers couldn?t build or maintain any kind of offensive rhythm throughout the game. A couple steals by Pinnock that led to some transition points helped stem the lead a little, but the Grizzlies pulled a 23 to 14 scoring run in the 3rd quarter, and practically sealed the game.

    The Players

    Memphis Grizzlies

Alexander Johnson had a strong game with 15 points and 12 rebounds. He went 6 of 12 from the field, grabbed 6 offensive rebounds, and had 1 blocked shot. He was by far the most active player on the court, out-muscling in the paint and taking advantage of the smaller Marcus Slaughter and slower Douthit on the backboard. Neither can really hold deny nor hold position on Johnson and he seized some one-on-one opportunities on the block.

Hakim Warrick played a sub-par game. He couldn?t get his game going with the continual stops of play. He finished with 8 points on 3 of 8 shooting and 3 rebounds.

Lawrence Roberts finished with 8 points, 9 rebounds, and 1 blocked shot on 3 of 11 shooting.

Kyle Lowry shows poise in setting up the offense, but doesn?t take full advantage of his talent within the system. He rarely creates opportunities for himself, even when he can take his man off-the-dribble. Laker big men did defend the pick and roll well, but Lowry lacked any kind of offensive assertiveness to attack the basket as an aggressive scorer. He finished with 7 points on 1 of 3 shooting, the only field goal behind the arc, 4 of 6 from the free throw line, 2 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Andreas Glyniadakis was the recipient of favorable calls on the block. Bynum did a fair job of denying position and but also got on his heels defensively a bit. Bynum had his share of stops and great post defense as well, but finished with 7 personal fouls, having fits with defensive help and man-defense. Andreas finished with 20 points on 7 of 13 shooting and 11 rebounds.

    The Lakers

Jordan Farmar seems to be struggling after the groin injury. He?s clearly not showing the same kind of bounce as showed by previous SPL games. He did a solid job play-making but by far this was his worst game with ball-protection. He finished with 10 points on 4 of 12 shooting, 0 of 5 behind the arc, 2 of 3 from the stripe, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists. The lack of flow interrupted his game greatly, and he simply couldn?t hit an open jump-shot.

Andrew Bynum played another frustrating game. He got caught in foul trouble from rotating on help. None of the power forwards provided the help Bynum needed to cover his assignment. He ended up with 7 personal fouls. He had a couple of great, and surprising high post sequences, where he operated from the 15′ mark, took a dribble, did a spin pivot and took a short 5′ shot. Very encouraging sign. He did have trouble on the glass as Alexander Johnson was beating him out with energy and activity, and Glyniadakis did a better job with defensive rebounding position. Missed box-outs were highlighted big tonight, as were the poor help from the power forward slot on defense and the glass.

Devin Green led the team with 18 points on 5 of 7 from the field, 8 of 8 from the stripe, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block. Same typical game from Green, hitting midrange jumpers and taking advantage of the transition opportunities. Nothing new shown by him this SPL except the midrange J. Otherwise, he?s the most consistent player beside Pinnock.

Danilo Pinnock may have only played 11 minutes, but in the 2nd quarter, he hit Green for a layup in transition, did a drive and dish sequence to Green for a 20′ jump-shot, did a high low sequence for Green cut within the triangle for a layup, and hit a 3-pointer. He gathered 4 assists, 3 with the Green connection. His understanding of the triangle is very good, and he understands where to pick his spots with play-making and creating shots. Unfortunately, he couldn?t provide any kind of spark with the 4th quarter lineup next to Bynum, Green, and Farmar.

It was a very tough game to watch. Too many stoppages of play, odd lineup use by the Laker team, poor triangle execution, and low energy made the game very ugly. There are two games left in the Summer Pro League, 3pm against the Wizards and 730pm against the Grizzlies. Hopefully Rudy Gay will be playing so we can see how well Green and Pinnock can handle that defensively.

    Boxscore: http://www.summerproleague.com/july15game3.pdf

Horrible game for the Lakers. The only bright spot was Green, everyone else didn't show up to play. Bynum had a horrible game, as did Farmar, but at least Farmar has an excuse since he just came back from an injury. Bynum on the other hand, needs a lot of work. He is definetly not ready yet for the NBA, and will have to work more on his conditioning.

guh, 7 turnovers for Farmar, 7 fouls by Bynum, rough game...

well, i also heard that Bynum was double, triple, and even once quadruple-teamed, so maybe it wasn't so bad for him...

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">It?s the tenth day of the Long Beach Summer Pro League and the Washington Wizards upped the ante in their last game by playing Iron Man basketball. They only dressed 6 players which left only Scottie Pippen look-a-like Jon Rogers as the lone backup off the bench. Despite having 7 DNPs in the boxscore, the Wizards played some impressive basketball (shooting 53% overall), but couldn?t overcome their lack of defense to win the game, ultimately losing 132-123 to the Los Angeles Lakers. After a cold start they rallied and led at the half, but fatigue kicked in on the defensive end allowing the Lakers to shoot a ridiculous 60% from the field for the game.

    Lakers

Andrew Bynum ? Bynum went 10-10 from the field today en route to 25 points. He also grabbed 11 boards, dished 3 assists and blocked 2 shots (one of which was a monster). With half the Wizards team sitting this one out, there was no one left to guard the seven-footer. Washington spent most of the game with 6?9? Julian Terrell and 6?11? Andray Blatche guarding Andrew and it showed as Bynum used his height and hops to score at will. If any of the Lakers outside of Farmar could throw a decent entry pass Bynum would have gone for 40. On one particularly nice play, Andrew jumped and deflected the ball from the right side of the hoop off the glass and then jumped backwards and caught it two-handed on the left side of the hoop for a put-back dunk. The competition wasn?t very tough out there and he made the most of it, something coach Kurt Rambis echoed after the game. Rambis also mentioned that he foresees Bynum becoming not just a back-to-the-basket center, but also being able to face up from 10?-15? with a reliable jumper; something he has not displayed thus far in Long Beach outside of warm-ups. After the game Andrew mentioned that Kareem Abdul-Jabar has been waiting for him to show his left-handed hook, but he hasn?t gotten a chance yet and is hoping to show it off tomorrow.

Jordan Farmar ? Farmar looked much healthier today and was moving freely and without any noticeable sluggishness. It showed up on the stat sheet as well as he scored 16 points and dished 11 assists in 31 minutes of play. He threw a nice alley-oop to Bynum in transition, threw another oop off the backboard to Devin Green, spun off contact for a dish to Bynum for a dunk and tossed another nice pass to Green for a layup and And-1 opportunity. Offensively he hit a 10? baseline jumper, made a very athletic left-handed reverse layup while cutting on a pass from Kasib Powell, threw a 12? floating teardrop up while on the baseline and showed a nice running hook off the glass from a good distance outside the paint. Farmar was heard repeatedly telling players where to go in the offense and directing players to their proper positions. He?s done an excellent job this summer leading both on and off the floor, and the coaching staff has been impressed.

Devin Green ? Green scored 26 points today on a very impressive 12 of 14 shooting. He also grabbed 8 rebounds and dished 4 assists. He slammed home a huge dunk in transition, showed his improved midrange game again between 18? and 20?, and faked his man off the block and did a pretty step-through move to finger-roll it in. A very solid game from Green, something we?ve come to expect.

Marcus Slaughter ? Slaughter deserves a mention today for his continued hustle and underrated athleticism. He?s had numerous weakside blocks erased this summer due to careless fouls by the defenders, made a lot of impressive hangtime layups and dunks out of broken plays, and consistently worked the boards on both sides for extra possessions, all while defending 1-4 on switches and in transition. Slaughter has shown time and again that he deserves to be on an NBA roster this year. Although it?s unlikely he?ll make the Lakers as they?re scrambling to find spots as it is for Green, Wafer and Pinnock, he should make another team where he can get some time in the gym to bulk-up and improve his game.

Nile Murry ? For those of you on the Nile Murry Layup Watch: Nile went an impressive 2 of 6 today, scoring his first buckets since Day 4. It?s also the first game he shot over 30%. Congratulations Nile! For those of you keeping track at home Murry has now upped his shooting percentage from 17% to 18%, since the last time we checked, going 7 of 38 so far this summer.

Looks like Farmar and Bynum bounced back, even though Bynum was going against players much shorter than himself.

These are the type of performances Bynum needs to deliver on during the Summer League to build his confidence.

Devin Green and Pinnock is going to be a tough decision on who to keep and who to send to the NBADL.

Agreed, but right now I'm leaning towards Pinnock just because he shows more defense and he's been more consistent, he keeps putting up 10-20, where Green has his big games, but then seems to disappear...

wow. Nice stats by Bynum against Washington. If he can show up like that every game, I can see him contributing in the NBA at least 10/6 this season.
